Title: Hurry! There isn't much time! Sea level will rise 25 meters!
Post by: Fatman on August 16, 2009, 07:46:28 AM
Bold mine. Seems the Chicken Littles know this has happened before, and *GASP*!!!... humans played no part.

BTW, make your mountain purchases before 3,950 years pass or you are SOL.

Earth’s sea levels may rise 25 meters by 4000 AD despite CO2 freeze

LONDON - A new study on the effects of climate change on melting ice sheets has indicated that even if scientists could freeze-frame the atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) as it is today, sea levels would still rise by 25 meters by 4000 AD.

According to a report in New Scientist, Eelco Rohling of the UK National Oceanography Centre at the University of Southampton and colleagues conducted the study.

They reconstructed sea level fluctuations over the last 520,000 years and compared this to global climate and carbon dioxide levels data for the same period.

They found a tight coupling between carbon dioxide and sea level rise.

Based on this relationship, the team calculated that if the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere were fixed at current levels, temperature rises over the next couple of millennia would eventually drive sea levels up by 25 meters.

The team emphasizes that the rise would not happen overnight or even over the next century.

Two studies published last year suggested that there is a limit to how fast the water can rise.

According to one, sea levels could rise by approximately 1.3 meters by 2100. The other set the upper limit at 2 meters. (ANI)

No problem.  I'm at 890 feet above MSL overlooking a lake that is designed for 714 feet above MSL.   75 or 80 feet of rise is OK here.  Land values will go up.   ;)

I'm safe till at least 2200 as I'm at least 14 feet above the lake and 545 feet above sea level.

A little rise in sea level, that's nothing. Scientists have developed their "best ever" estimate an when our Sun will go super nova and destroy the entire solar system. I don't want to start a panic.

We only have 4 and a half BILLION years left.

Not active.  Got a handy/talkie, VX7R I key up every now and then.  I've an 857D still in the box from March with and LDG tuner, antennaes, wire, etc...waiting for me to have time to install.  Maybe next week.  Got a 1011D in wrapping paper that's never been used...and a 10M wire for it....I just need a microphone and a way to bring the voltage up slow for a while to keep from blowing caps.

Heck there are sea shells in the Rockies, I think it had something to do with the great flood.
