I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for H&K to sell them to the general public. H&K has always been chasing military and LE contracts for a number of years if not always.

When is the US Military gonna realize it needs a rifle that will actually kill someone at 200yards?  The 5.56 (.223) is a great varmit round but a darn poor military one. IMHO

H-K is absolutely not going to have the 416 in a civilian version...at least, that's what I've heard.

The closest you can get are the gass piston uppers from POF 416. See it here:

I just dropped them a note about getting one to test.

Good luck! Oh and how does the Sig 556 compare? It uses a gas piston, correct?

I'm a big fan of the 556...it has virtually no recoil and the ones I shot have excellent triggers. I'm goign to be shooting one a bit more next week in New Hamster, and I'll post more here.

I'm on a waiting list to get my own 556. My plan is to take it through a week-long carbine class and really get a feel for how it runs.

We're anxiously awaiting your report on the SIG, MB. There is info available online for the POF rifles (they sure sound top notch), but do you have any scoop on the Bushmaster gas piston design? Is it the POF design? I couldn't get a straight answer from Bushmaster which makes me a little suspicious.
