Title: Stainless Ultra Raptor II
Post by: clm on August 19, 2009, 09:55:08 PM
Hello,
I am considering a new Stainless Ultra Raptor II,  http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/customshop/stainless_ultra_raptor_II/ .
Anyone have experience???
I am replacing a Springfield Micro-compact, can't get slide to stop locking open.
Looking for 100% reliable iwb carry 3" 1911, will Kimber be it ??
Thanks in advance,

Since you like those over priced pistols that shoot no better than the average 1911, I say go buy it. and Good luck.

Splitting hairs,.....Para has several that could save you some bucks for ammo

http://www.paraord.com/new/product_conceal.php

PXT LDA line is the same frame.

Not bashing Kimber by any means.... .45 ammo, as we all know, ain't cheap.

Just my .02 cents...

Don't let him bother you, Some one pissed in his pop corn a couple weeks ago and he hasn't gotten over it yet.

clm, you got a good pistol, maybe complain and send it back, SA is a good company, or let a local pistol tech look at it. Your 1 problem should be solvable.

Try a heavier recoil spring

Try a heavier recoil spring

Not likely. If the recoil spring is too heavy, it might not let the slide come back far enough for the slide release to catch.

If the mag springs are weak they might not provide enough upward pressure to engage it. If the fit is too tight it could require more pressure than the mag springs can provide.

It really shouldn't be hard to resolve.

Sounded like his problem was that it was engaging when it SHOULD NOT,

Blah, blah, blah.  ;D  I guess I should have gone to bed when I wanted.

I have had this happen to me. The shape of the bullet I was using caused this. The nose of the bullet came so close to the side of the magazine that they would occasionally engage the slide release. Also, the reverse of my other post could be true. If the slide release is too sloppy, the recoil of the gun could be enough to make it happen. In 1911's, the slide release is a different part depending on caliber. If the wrong one was inserted for that caliber, problems can occur.

I'm going to bed now.  :P

I called Springfield Armory and received a prepaid FedEx label yesterday.

Yes, the slide stop will engage when it should not, holding the slide open with ammo still in the mag.
I have replaced twice the guide rod & recoil spring, one from SA and a one-piece from Kimber, one new SA slide stop, two plunger springs from Wolfe, 17 different magazines from SA, Wilson, McCormick and Tripp/ACT, and unknown variety of ammo.  Still have same problem.  My guess is the plunger tube is not securely attached to the slide.
The SA lady was very nice and said they will gladly look at it, about four week turnaround time.
Hindsight says I should have called Springfield about 10 month ago !!
Taurus has had my 3" Judge for four weeks to fix light primer hits and now the Springer has to go.

Sorry to hear this.

If wasn't for bad luck you wouldn't have any!

Don't sweat it, Hind sight is ALWAYS 20/20.
I have always heard good things about SA customer service so they will most likely take good care of you.
When you get it back, I would shoot the hell out of it with all the ammo's and Mags you tried before.

The SA guys will before it gets sent back. If it comes back dirty, that isn't a bad thing....

Good luck with the Judge also.

I think the SA will come back right, and than you can still get a Para or Kimber anyway.... ;)

clm,

I'm not familiar with the new Ultra Raptor II, but Kimber has earned a reputation for excellence for a reason.

If you would like to send me an Ultra Raptor II, I will be more than happy to put it through it's paces and provide you with a thorough pistol evaluation and range report. ;D

I'm just that kind of a caring and giving guy to help you out in a lurch. ;D

I gave up (temporarily) on 3" 1911's and got a Colt model 04860xse, lightweight commander.  http://coltsmfg.com/products-c5-q7-COLT_PISTOLS.aspx#
It ate the first 100 Winchester Whities out of five different mags with no problem!  My buddy has one and it even eats Remington yellow box UMC's.
I will try a bunch of different hollow points tomorrow !!

Went down to Bud's today and got a Colt Night Defender. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_141/products_id/411537562
The first 100 rounds were flawless, including every big mouth hollow point I could find in the ammo closet.
I am a huge new Colt's Mfg. fan !!! and a long time Bud's fan.

Springfield has a great warranty, why don't you call them and get a RA and have them take care of it?
