Title: District 9
Post by: Johnny Bravo on August 23, 2009, 12:38:20 AM
I went to the movies. I don't go very often. I usually wait for the dvd or watch it on cable. I watch old movies (30's,40's ,50's etc.) The last one I went to I think was Saving Private Ryan. We saw District 9. Good movie.......GREAT WEAPONS. What firepower..........AWESOME. Inglorious Bastards is next.  8)

If you visit District 9s website, it makes the movie seem like propaganda for illegal immigrants...

That's pretty much what it is intended to be, pro illegal alien, anti apartheid,30 years after apartheid went away.

Yikes ! No political agenda intended here guys. I haven't changed my views on the illegal alien situation or my religion or what kind of vehicle I drive. I had seen a good movie with great guns in it and wanted to let you know about it. ???

Oh, don't take it the wrong way JB, I read up about it on their website a couple days ago.  Their under lying agenda was made pretty clear. Just like "Blood Diamond" which was an awesome movie that was released the same month the UN lifted their ban on "conflict diamonds".

Blonde jokes work very well!  There no sign up, it's more of a first come, first served!  It will get a little crowded at times!

Saw the movie last Friday.  Good movie, not a great Sci Fi movie, but good action.  Got more of a 'evil corporations' vibe from it, as well as the whole international corruption theme.  Lots of commentary on racism, and being made by a white South African, I think that what the makers were putting in from their life experiences.  Didn't feel like it was discussing illegal immigration as much as racism in general.  But perhaps we tend to tie the two together because we are often demonized, and let me add unjustly, as racist because of our pro law and country immigration views.

While I READ a lot of Sci Fi I've never been a big fan of the movies, although I did like Babylon 5.

Tom, we all know you don't know how to read.  You just use Microsoft Sam and speech to text to play on the forum. ;)

Thread drift:  What's your kind of Sci Fi, author and books, please?

Anything by Robert Heinlein, (except Puppet masters, I saw the beginning of the movie and it creeped me out  ;D  )
Douglas Adams "Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy" Any of the Harry Turtledove "alternate histories" (Guns of the South )
David Drake, Can't think of any more off hand but there are several in the Sci Fi war genre that are good, like David Weber's "Honor Harrington " series.
