Ah, here's the rub, ironic justice.   FIVE years ago, when John Kerry was running for president.  Kennedy pressure the Mass legistlature to pass a law requiring a public vote on replacement congress seats.   Despite all the high-faluting rhetoric he was concerned that if Kerry won, Gov Romney (R) would appoint a republican.

JUST THIS MONTH, Kennedy was pressuring Mass Legislature to reverse that law, so that when he died, the now Democratic governor could appoint the replacement!

I don't think they passed the reversal.  So the people of MA will get to vote.

I think it is fitting that his last official act was to sponsor and vote for a $5 billion dollar expansion of public service ... as if gov. ain't big enough and expensive enough already.  And then last week he makes an apeal to change his own rules concerning his replacement ... Have you ever played a game with a three year old that will do anything to gain an advantage?

This rant isn't just about Sen. Kennedy.  This rant is about every elected or public official that worshiped who he was and what he stood for.

I was wrong, it wasn't quite enough. From today's View From the Porch:

http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2009/08/mary-jo-kopechnes-killer-finally-called.html (http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2009/08/mary-jo-kopechnes-killer-finally-called.html)

Mary Jo Kopechne's killer finally called to account.

It is with a less-than-heavy heart that I awakened to the news that the Evel Knievel of Chappaquiddick, longtime foeman of my freedoms, and last withered fruit of a particularly bad crop of jumped-up Yankee wannabe-aristocrats that infested our government, has finally gone on to whatever reward awaits him.

As an added bonus, I will probably not have to hear anything about Michael Jackson for at least a week.

The word "foeman" was a link to this:

Just as there are women in this world that should not be allowed to wear certain items of clothing, there are many of us men that should keep the cloth on our bodies in public!  I admit to taking my shirt off from time to time when working outside, but I have seven and a half acres in a rural setting to hide on ... and did I mention lots of screening from the road?

Those were two pictures I could have gone a lifetime without seeing  :(

All due to a human life that was lived - he was a fellow human being that deserves the respect that comes with it.  However, if it were not for the power of his father, the long and strong family coat tails, and a very liberal state he would have been dumped long ago for his poor life choices.  More good men and women have been ruined for far less than has been overlooked in his life.  I will also go on record as saying that his welfare policies have done more to ruin the American work ethic and sense of personal responsibility than any single movement in history.

Wiki...

Kennedy enlisted in the United States Army in June 1951.  Following basic training at Fort Dix, he requested assignment to Fort Holabird for Army Intelligence training, but was dropped after a few weeks without explanation.  He went to Camp Gordon for training in the Military Police Corps.  In June 1952, he was assigned to the honor guard at SHAPE headquarters in Paris.  His father's political connections ensured he was not deployed to the ongoing Korean War.  While stationed in Europe he travelled extensively on weekends and climbed the Matterhorn.  He was discharged in March 1953 as a private first class.

While you have a valid point, having my own personal Ted Kennedy whose death will be celebrated with me dancing on his grave (for the record LES LEMM is reportedly a conservative but has NEVER taken responsibility for his action).  I will be relieved if Les dies before me of Baudette, MN because I don't want to explain to the Almighty how I could let that booze hound get off scott free.  I'm not celebrating Kennedy's death, but recognizing the relief the Koepechnee family must be feeling know.  There is only one death that I won't feel any sorrow over and that's not Kennedy, but he still was a killer that never had to account before this day.  That's my plug nickle and I'm not going to enterain any comments how I'm wrong-well maybe about Kennedy I will.

"Upon graduation from Milton in 1950 he enrolled at Harvard - like his older brothers before him. At the end of his freshman year, however, he was expelled for having another student take a Spanish final examination in his stead. Kennedy then enlisted for a two-year stint in the army. Perhaps the advantage of his father's influence won him assignment to SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers, Europe) headquarters in Paris."

The  Last of
 The Kennedy Dynasty

As soon as his cancer was detected, I noticed the immediate attempt at the “canonization” of old Teddy Kennedy by the mainstream media. They are saying what a "great American" he
is.  I say, let's get a couple things clear & not twist the facts to change the real history.

1.
He was caught cheating at Harvard when he attended it.
He was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and once
for paying a classmate to cheat for him.

 2.
While expelled, Kennedy e nlisted in the Army, but
mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two.
Oops!  The man can't count to four!  His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, former U.S. Ambassador to  England
> (a step up from bootlegging liquor into the US from
> Canada   during prohibition), pulled the necessary
> strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and
> to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea
, where a war
> was raging.  No preferential treatment for him! (like
> he charged that President Bush received).

> 3.
> Kennedy was assigned to Paris , never advanced beyond the
> rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being
> discharged.  Imagine a person of his
> "education" NEVER advancing past the rank of
> Private!

4.
> While attending law school at the University of Virginia ,
> he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once
> when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a
> residential neighborhood with his headlights off after
> dark.  Yet his Virginia driver's license was never
> revoked..  Coincidentally, he passed the bar exam in
> 1959.  Amazing!

 5.
> In 1964, he was seriously injured in a plane crash, and
> hospitalized for several  months.  Test results
> done by the hospital at the time he was admitted had shown
> he was legally intoxicated.  The results of those tests
> remained a "state secret" until in the 1980's
> when the report was unsealed..  Didn't hear about
> that from the unbiased media, did we?

6.
> On July 19, 1969, Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts .  At about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur's keys to his Oldsmobile
limousine, and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo
Kopechne, a campaign worker.  Leaving the island via an unlit bridge with no guard rail, Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped, and into Poucha Pond..

7.
> He swam to shore and walked back to the party, passing
> several houses and a fire station.  Two friends then
> returned with him to the scene of the accident.

> guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a
> SUSPENDED SENTENCE OF TWO MONTHS.

Kopechne's family received a small pay out from the Kennedy's insurance policy, and never sued.  There was
later an effort to have her body exhumed and autopsied,  but her family  successfully fought against this in court, and  Kennedy's family  paid their attorney's bills... a "token of
friendship"?

10.

Let's not allow the spin doctors make this jerk a hero -- how quickly the American public forgets what his real legacy is.
Let’s keep this going for truth, justice and the American
way

He has also been stopped several times in the NH Seacoast for speeding and Drunk driving, also let us not forget the episode a few years ago of him chasing young girls around on a beach while shitfaced and naked.
Well, actually we might WANT to forget that one.    ::)

Even though he meets the requirements as a veteran, you know that it is more about the "honor" bestowed upon the "liberal lion" and prestige than for actual service rendered in the military.  As I recall, it took special permission for Robert to be buried in Arlington.  I think it is because he did not actually serve enough active duty, but mostly in training.  I could be wrong and would welcome correction, but when we were at Arlington almost two years ago it was said during the tour that one of the Kennedys needed special permission for burial.  I can't believe that it would have been JFK, so I'm thinking it was RFK.  All that aside, we now have a special Kennedy section.

He gets into Arlington based on his two years of active duty AND his elected office!  Bobby met the same criteria, ex-Navy and a U.S. Senator from NY...

Okay, so here's a link to the National Lampoon fake add that got them sued by Volkswagen.  I don't remember the year but I think it was in the early 70s.

UPDATE: “One of his favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself”

One of Kennedy’s close friends, former editor of Newsweek and New York Times Magazine Ed Klein, tells the Diane Rehm Show that Chappaquiddick jokes were high up on the list

Quote
I don’t know if you know this or not, but one of his favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself. And he would ask people, “have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick?” That is just the most amazing thing. It’s not that he didn’t feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, but that he still always saw the other side of everything and the ridiculous side of things, too.

Love how the state run media are tripping all over themselves, trying to "put lipstick on the pig," as the big O would say.

He was the exact type of cretin the liberal maroons worship. My hero!

I'm sure my dad, (WWII) Uncle Mac (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) and Aunt Ruth (Korea) will be digging themselves out of Arlington shortly.

They all SERVED their country, Teddy!

There was a poignant footnote to President Obama's historic July 10 meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. Behind closed doors in the papal library, Obama handed Benedict a letter that Senator Edward Kennedy had asked him to personally deliver to the pontiff. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs later told reporters that nobody - not even the President - knew the contents of the sealed missive. Obama himself asked Benedict to pray for Kennedy, and called the ailing Senator afterward to fill him in on his encounter with the 82-year-old Pope.

Rest of the story:

Interesting find CJ,, if he wasn't a "Kennedy" he probably would have been excommunicated.
