Title: Remington 710 !!!! what the heck was i thinking?????
Post by: paperbeware on November 01, 2007, 07:53:46 PM
I must have lost my mind...or was it all the falling prices at Wal-Mart that did it?
I bought one in .270 and the be honest the gun was accurate out of the box at 100 yards.
But I don't hunt....I like paper, close or far, makes no difference...so when I shoot I don't
expect to be assaulted at the bench. and that's what the 710 does it attacks the shooter
and punished him or her mercilessly.
Composite stock made it the #1 unbalanced, ain't got no weight where you need it gun in history.
Recoil is felt deep within your body and affects your motor skills after prolonged exposure.
Could the bolt fit any worse?

Being a novice in rifle world i figured a muzzle brake would make a difference in the gun for me.

And it did!!! In addition to all its other faults it now has loosened all the filings in my teeth!

Today I went to my local gun store and they were merciless with me. I would have taken less for the gun than the 200 they offered, so I was ok with that but it seems that having a Wal-Mart gun in the store now is somehow demeaning!

I traded for a Remington 700 .270 with a nice 3x9 Bushnell. I bought some low recoil ammo in addition the the small stockpile of 270 I had.
I love this gun. I actually had a good time at the range. I ran 60 rounds of different stuff through it and cleaned it every 5 shots or so.
Great groups. I don't need low recoil ammo now!
You know a gun stinks when the company markets their new gun (770) as a great impovement over the 710!
No  regrets. Just don't make the same mistakes I did!

If you shoot paper and wanted something accurate you should have bought a Savage.
