Title: Tom Ridge admits to being a liar

Yep, he had a book to sell...... so why not say what ever the f..k hell you have to say in order to sell it.

Now, Ridge says he did not mean to suggest he was pressured to raise the threat level, and he is not accusing anyone of trying to boost Bush in the polls. “I was never pressured,” Ridge said.

Ridge blew his credibility when he allowed his publisher to make that unsupported allegation in advance of the book’s release.  He didn’t immediately note that the allegations were false; it took him twelve days to finally get around to it.  Ridge put cash ahead of his word in this case, which makes his memoirs both suspect and unappealing.
In fairness, I don’t think we know if Ridge had editorial control or review privileges over of what the publisher does for book promotion.  I find it completely plausible that the publisher would create a controversy in order to sell books.  The “lefties” would love to read a book that bashes Bush.

Ridge was always suspect IMHO - ever since his role in establishing a state-wide registry of firearms in PA when he was gov. That proved he was an a$$hole - this lying is just icing on the cake.

We don't have a registry.

My bad, thought it passed when he was gov. So the Leg stopped it or the gunowners?

Don't know. Most antigun stuff gets killed before it even gets a chance to start rolling, except in Pittsburgh and Philly, where the law apparently doesn't matter to them.

Whether Ridge lied in his book or the editors made a mistake, I'm glad that he has chosen to correct the inaccuracy.

It is one less black eye on the Bush administration. They have already received far more criticism than was ever warranted, proven or deserved.

Here is truth I never knew...a laser-like beam of reality.  Things make sense now.

I can't say I went along with everything Bush did, but I firmly believe that history will judge him much more kindly (and fairly) than many do today.

Oh, you mean like they did Reagan, who while he was President was reviled by the treasonous left, as a "warmonger", Cowboy, etc. But once he was dead they shed their alligator tears for "this Great Statesman".

Amen. If others don't screw it up he will have a great legacy of starting Democracy in the Middle East.

His success in creating the path that led to peaceful and productive nations in the Middle East will be a legacy that many will remember. The fruits of his labor may not be evident for decades, but I have no doubt that history will look fondly upon him.

Who, in the early 50s, would have imagined the Japan and Germany of today?

Who in the early 80's would have believed the Germany of today, I remember reading a learned discourse by some Professor about the very valid reasons Germany could NEVER be reunified.

I started to have doubts right after he recommended duct tape for sealing your house after 9/11.

Don't get me wrong, I love duct tape, but have advanced to the 200mph, "shrinkwrap tape". 8)
