Yes, but he seems to be a pretty level headed Kid, who will recognize it for the BS that it is.
I imagine you WILL be talking this over with him and pointing him to the relevant dissenting opinions  ;D

Of course, but wouldn't it be nice if parents were informed of this type of crap before hand?  Had I not seen this most likely I would never have heard about it.  (Jr will sleep through it ;) )

Told he was a young man with good sense  ;D
The way tax payers are raising hell about the deficit, nationalizing industries, and Obama care, do you REALLY expect them to give you a chance to comment on communist indoctrination of your kids ?

Actually you're wrong here. Ron and Nancy did it back in the '80s when TV in the classroom was considered to be the cool new thing. They gave one of thier "just say no spiels" that was to be accompanied by teachng tools including everything from MADD to McRuff the Crime Dog. ::)Same propaganda and basically an excuse for students to take a nap. (I mean, I was deeply touched and moved by the inspirational words from our president) ;D.

Probably the best approach. I mean the man can give a speech, and if its just duty, honor country and remember to eat your spinach and study hard and volunteer in your community, what's the harm? If its something else, well....

Where the problem comes in is the fact that many of us don't trust this man any further than we can throw a Humvee, and are scared to death at the thought of him having the opportunity to address our children without our supervision.

True, but politics aside, the Obamas are great role models for black kids. I mean seriously, study hard, get married before you have kids and look where you can go. Forget him, look at her. She came from a blue collar family (note again family) and her brother is a successful college coach and she was a high end lawyer who wound up running a hospital. You think she would raise her kids to date a guy that called them bitches or hos or baby momma? Just like Condi and Colin Powell, they set an example that you can do anything, and should ignore the Jesse Jacksons of the world who say you can't. As I say, this has zero to do with their politics (any of the four), just that its something that too many black teenagers need to be forcibly reminded of.

FQ, my friend, I think you need to emerge from the hallowed and somewhat idealized halls of academia and take a look at the real world.  Jesse Jackson and the others who say you can't are Obama's bread and butter.  They're the ones who help him and his ilk maintain a dependent class that can't survive without him, thereby insuring his power base.

Its irrelevant TT. Jackson can say what wants to, and Obama can kiss his ass. The point is an ambitious black kid (of whatever ideology) can look up and say, if him, why not me? If she can be raised by a janitor and wind up running a hospital, why can't I? Condi and Powell both got to be sec state on their merits, Jackson's rhetoric not withstanding. It really is a case of a picture being worth a thousand words.

Are you out of your mind ? They are a couple of scum bag political hacks who, if Michelle's Daddy had not been a Ward boss for the Daley machine, never would have had the opportunity to become pay to play union suck ups, You say Michelle "ran a hospital' ? you don't know what you are babbling about, She "helped" her community" by instituting a patient dumping program that almost cost UCMC it's Medicare credentials.
Funny before they decided to pay her $350,000+( right after hubby hit the Senate)  per year they had no need of her position and have not filled it since she left, of course, having her Mentor, Machine hack Valerie Jarrett on the board of Directors gave Michelle the key to the golden goose.
FQ, just go back to your kool ade.

I sat/slept through it in 9th grade Haz, and yes, there was Officer Friendly and the obligatory MADD film of "Death on the Highway" or some such. The only thing they didn't roll out was "Reefer Madness", but probably just due to an oversight. Too bad, as it would have livened things up. ;D

PS For all I know, this thing may be unique, because its live, or "nation wide" or on the internet or something. Just because I voted against McCain doesn't mean I believe BO. :-\ The point is that I got stuck in a three hour assembly listening to lectures on the evils of drugs and drink with the first couple headlining.

Anti drugs is an entirely different speech than "I pledge to serve Barak Hussein Obama."

Transcripts of his speech are "unavailable" with our transparent POTUS, for us as parents with kids in school to review.

I can get a heads up with the State of the Union speech, BEFORE, he gives it, but not what he is going to say to our kids?

Some folks I know are going to keep their kids from school that day...for this reason...

Once again, handling things poorly. If the POTUS wants to talk to kids, fine, BUT NOT GETTING A TRANSCRIPT BEFORE HE GIVES IT?

Is pure Bovine Scatology! >:(

I'll bet you dollars to donuts that some schools will insist on a Dr's excuse for any child that misses school that day.

I was coming home from a Club meeting (range) tonight and heard that some, not all, school districts in Massachusetts are NOT going to air this speech live and will not be requiring their students to participate if they don't want to.  A taped version will be shown at a later date for interested students.

I have not had to time to research it further but the station is generally correct on these issues.

Back in 1991, Dick Gephardt called Bush the Elders speech to children at a Middle School, the "political exploitation of our children"...

I guess the double standard applies....

Just got this from V/C

Posted by Jim Lindgren:
George H.W. Bush's 1991 Speech to Kids.
http://volokh.com/archives/archive_2009_08_30-2009_09_05.shtml#1252117357

I was intrigued by the links to a Washington Post story about George
H.W. Bush speaking to school children on October 1, 1991. My daughter
was in school then and I didnât remember hearing about her watching
   any such event.

On WESTLAW, I looked up other news stories about the speech. It was
reported as 10 minutes in some reports and 12 minutes in others. It
was carried live on CNN, PBS, and Mutual radio. The Secretary of
Education sent a letter urging schools to have their students watch,
but I didnât find any evidence of how many schools followed that
recommendation. And most striking: Bush laid out goals -- to increase
the graduation rate, improve student competency and better prepare
students for entering school -- and said, ''Let me know how you're
doing. Write me a letter. I'm serious about this one. Write me a
letter about ways you can help us achieve our goals.''

   Here are some excerpts:

     10/1/91 USA TODAY

President Bush takes to the airwaves today to promote his education
goals, a day after the Education Department released a bleak report
on students' achievement. Bush is scheduled to make a noontime
speech to be carried live by CNN, PBS and Mutual Radio. He'll speak
from Alice Deal Junior High School, in Washington's affluent suburb
     of Chevy Chase, Md.

Once again.. I have to share what Warph said:.. :)

I noticed a number disgruntled parents last night on the tube, griping about the left-wing indoctrination their young kids are about to get from Barack Hussein Obama in a few days.  They are threatening to not send them to school that day.  I don't blame them and if I had any small fry curtain-climbers hanging around the house, I'd keep them home that day, too.  Situation taken care of.

But what about the ones that are forced to undergo left-wing indoctrination at colleges and universities all over America.  One minute, it seems, the kids are sane, or at least as sane as one can expect of 18-year-olds, and the next thing you know they’re parroting the likes of Ward Churchill, William Ayers and Noam Chomsky, bad-mouthing America and yodeling the praises of such left-wing troglodytes as Hugo Chavez, the Castro brothers and Barack Hussein Obama.  I feel their frustration.  Even if the little nincompoops can’t do long division or write a coherent sentence, parents feel like child abusers if they don’t pony up the dough to send their kids off for what is laughingly referred to as higher education.

If I were running things, most high school grads would enter trade schools.  America will always need nurses, plumbers, carpenters, glaziers and mechanics.  What nobody needs is some 21-year-old schnook who’s wasted four years and most of his inheritance majoring in black, hispanic or lesbian, studies.  And, then, to make matters worse, because like the Scarecrow of Oz, they have a sheepskin, they’re actually convinced they’re smarter than their parents.

Of course, the other thing I would promote is an end to the tenure system.  The original idea behind it was to protect professors from being fired because of their unpopular political beliefs, but in 2009, conservatives aren’t hired in the first place, so the only people whose jobs come with a lifetime guarantee are those addlebrained morons, safely ensconced in the Humanities, espousing liberal claptrap.

Somebody recently took me to task for referring to Michael Jackson as a pedophile.  This yutz pointed out that Jackson had never been convicted in a court of law, as if that proved anything.  The fact remains that the King of Pedophiles had paid out millions of dollars in hush money to keep a case from going to trial.  And, by his own admission, he admitted he enjoyed sleeping with young boys.  Where I come from, if it waddles and quacks like a duck, it’s either a duck or most likely Barney Frank.

Whenever people use that court of law argument to make a point, I know they’re desperate.  Hell, O.J. Simpson and Al Capone were never convicted of murder, and Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Idi Amin and Kim Jong-il, have never even been convicted of jay-walking.

Something else I always find that irks me is when Obama’s liberal groupies....   along with a few Cable News commentators,  deny that the President is a left-wing ideologue.  All of his schemes, from gobbling up car companies and banks to wanting to nationalize health care and redistribute the wealth, show his true colors.  As I say, if it waddles and quacks like a duck, feel free to pop it in the oven and serve it with string beans and sweet potatoes this Labor Day... and if it's Barney, stick an apple in his mouth.

In fact, while mulling over ol' BHO who slimes... sorry.... who sits in the Oval Office, I was reminded of a riddle from my childhood.  You’d be asked what was black and white and read all over, and the answer was a newspaper.  These days, I’m afraid the appropriate answer to what is black and white and red all over is Barack Hussein Obama.
