WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama on Tuesday praised American Muslims for enriching the nation's culture at a dinner to celebrate the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
"The contribution of Muslims to the United States are too long to catalog because Muslims are so interwoven into the fabric of our communities and our country," Obama said at the iftar, the dinner that breaks the holiday's daily fast......
Obama also noted the contributions of Muhammad Ali, who was not in attendance, though the president borrowed a quote from famous boxer, explaining religion:
"A few years ago," Obama said, "he explained this view -- and this is part of why he's The Greatest -- saying, 'Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams -- they all have different names, but they all contain water. Just as religions do -- they all contain truths."'
Obama also released a video message to Muslims before the start to Ramadan. In the video, he said Ramadan's rituals are a reminder of the principles Muslims and Christians have in common, including advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.

Maybe my memory is failing me, but when was the last time the President went on record to describe Christianity, or Judaism as a great religion?

Why would he do that.... He is not a Christian.

What the heck is bho smoking these days? This doesn't describe any measure of American history or American society - up until recent years anyhow, not since the Barbary pirates.
BTW, discovered this little tidbit last night. All immigrants entering the US under some Federal program - like the Nigerians in my neighborhood - get to live tax-free for 5 years. Tax-free as in NO taxes of any kind - no sales taxes, no property taxes, no income taxes - nothing, nada, zip, zilch. Five years, tax free.

But he did go on record and say we were no longer a nation of Christianity, or something like that or to that effect?

I haven't read anything about it but I doubt they avoid things like sales tax and Rooms and meals tax, that are collected at the point of sale as opposed to Govt. collected taxes, (property, income, etc. ) That they DO skate on.

Yom Kippur 2009
In 2009 Yom Kippur (Jewish Day of Atonement) begins at sundown on Sunday September 27 and ends at nightfall on Monday September 28.
Let's see if he joins Jewish folks for this one.....
