Title: Just a Matter of Interest . .
Post by: Crescendo on March 07, 2007, 01:19:03 PM
I think it would be of great interest to discover the basic purpose for folks visiting / joining this great forum.  If sufficient comments point to a specific area of interest, maybe Michael Bane (et al) could use the info:

TOpics:
Gun Stories
Specific Shooting Techniques
Just to see what everyone else is talking about
Specific weapon maintenance
Collectible weapons
etc.

This is not a poll - I'm just interested in what you folks might like to share -

Thanx, Crescendo

I like talking back to the people that make the tv show. I think Bane does a great job showing that he listens to the audience with his posts to us here.

Love watching the show.  I like format of the show and MB comes across as the 'GENUINE' article.  Saw the web site and figured it would be a way to find out more.  Some of the other shows appear to be 30 minute advertisements.

I've been around guns all my life.  I live in southeast PA and have alway hunted.  I have rifles, shotguns, muzzeloders, hunting pistols.  About couple of years ago I got my CC permit and have purchased a few carry guns (semi-autos).  So I'm here to learn.  I can't stand fake people and MB is not fake.  I like the fact that if he's says he uses it - he uses it!

I like the 'Now Playing' section, maybe too much.  I spent my lunch break today looking at snubbies.  Just figuring out how much I need to save to get one.  MB and this web site are gonna cost me some $.

Just wanna say that everyone on this site seems to be honest and helpful.  Its an HONOR to be a member!

Chucky Monkey & Wheels - Thanx for sharing your thoughts.  I too, am estatic about the show and the video's!! These videos address a whole lot of the questions most folks have but do not ask - and they are put into very easy to understand, layman-type terms.  But , the best part is that they clear out the cobwebs from the corners of the subject, so the message is totally presented and understood.

Long live MB, MH, everyone else on staff, and the good readers / watchers.

Thanx again, Crescedno

Thanks, guys!

My goal is to keep getting up more and more of the videos, plus bring in a lot of videos from our sponsors. I'm going up to SIG next week and filom a bunch of stuff, then GUNSITE first week of April for the same reason. Lots of people are wanting to come on board...all I need is a clone for me and Webmaster Marshal!

I don't own a 1911 and I don't know why they are so popular. What specific things make the 1911 so famous? How do you take it appart to clean? I noticed that there is some kind of lever that later is used as a key..

Appologies to all the 1911 geniouses..

Break a leg Michael. The STI show today was great.

I frequent quite a few forums covering an array of different firearms. Next to spending time shooting I enjoy reading and learning about all kinds of guns.

I really like trying new guns, techniques and targets so I was drawn to SG and Down Range.

Liking the shows so much that Michael is involved in, watching this site grow is FANtastic and I REALLY APPRECIATE Michael and Marshall's interaction here and hope things don't get so far ahead of them they can't find time to do it but at the same time I wish them the best to be able to reap the harvest of thier hard work.

Hope that made sense. Bottom Line-Just flat a great site to hang around on!

RE: 1911s, it's not that any one thing about them is great, but taken as an aggregate, they're just about perfect. Probably the greatest thing about the gun is the trigger, which can be tuned to amazing levels. No other service pistol with the exception the SIG 210, can sport as great a trigger as a tuned 1911, nor the kind of accuracy a tuned 1911 can deliver. The latter part of the 20th Century created a different set of demands for service pistols, so the current crop, while excellent out-of-the-box, lack the versatility and tunability of the 19th Century-designed 1911.

Secondly, we all grew up in the shadow of Col. Jeff Cooper. Because there's no current gunwriter with Cooper's pure authority these days, it's hard to explain how powerful an influence he exerted on all of us...to borrow a phrase from my friend Ken Hackathorn, "Dude, he invented us!" Also remember that once Col. Cooper invented — more appropriately, "rediscovered" what Rex Applegate had started doing after WW1 — practical shooting, it became our primary shootng activity. No, "primary" isn't strong enough...it was our obsession. We took our techniques to first law enforcement, then to the military, and, in essence, the 1911 came along with us. Then there's the custom gunsmithing aspect, as well as the accessories market, whihc allow a level of "personalizing" that isn't possible with modern service pistols.

After a half-million or so rounds over a period of decades, the hand remembers the gun.

Just to clear things up a little I must admit that Michael Bane and I are friends.  We have taken many opportunities to abuse each other, usually in front of other people.  I think of him as an integral part of the shooting industry.  Anyoine who does not know him should take any chance they have to meet him and engage him in conversation.  You will find him articulate and a veritable font of knowledge. With that said, I would remind all who read this that it is still OK to abuse him at your leisure.

If there is anythng to dislike about Michael it is the fact that he too often finds good deals on desireable firearms and hoards them in his safe.  He is not known to share these good deals but he will be happy to tell you about them.  If you have a good deal or know of a good deal, do not let him know about it without letting the rest of us know first.

Personally I love competition shooting and being from the land of perpetual night I can say I don't get to shoot much competition. So I live out my dreams of becoming a Grand Master action shooter online as well as while watching Mike get to watch as well as shoot with them on TV. I am lucky though, The USAF has seen fit to move me again and I will be PCSing to Offutt AFB soon. I hope to shoot at the USPSA Nationals and the Steel Challenge someday!

HA! Target stands...ask this worthless bum Henning:

http://www.henningshootsguns.com/

What's worse is that Henning has now moved into my little town in the mountains, so property values are set to plummet. First, the Frozen Dead Guy...now Henning!

FTG? I was just posting to the Rocky Mountain Mystery Writers of America website that I was going to finish FTG any minute now...really...honestly...etc. What's really embarrassing is that top mystery writers both here and in England have offered to "help [me] over my writer's block." I keep explaining that it's more of a "time" block, but nobody believes me. I could post my protagonist's first big sex scene...it's pretty funny...well, I think so...

I have to keep a weather-eye on Mike Daly, because I don't want him to get ahead of me with custom guns. He has the weirdest ideas, many of which I had first but dismissed as some sort of fetid fantasy caused by bad Mexican food.

I love the Frozen North...I did 3 IditaSports and climbed McKinley back in '95, when I was 11.
