Serbia munition explosion kills 7 Sep 4, 2009
Explosions ripped through a munitions factory in northern Serbia on Thursday, killing seven people and injuring 14 others, officials said. “Seven employees, six women and one man, were killed in the explosions” that rocked the Prvi Partizan plant in Uzice, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on B92 television after visiting the scene. Fourteen people suffered light injuries and had been taken to a hospital, he said. The cause of the explosions has yet to be determined, Dacic said. The bodies were pulled from the debris, said police official Predrag Maric, adding that firefighters had put out the resulting blaze. “A more serious catastrophe was avoided as some 100 people were located in the factory at the moment of the explosions,” he said. Town mayor Jovan Markovic said the explosions occurred at around 11:30 p.m. (2130 GMT). The Prvi Partizan factory, which employs about 600 people, has manufactured ammunition for nearly 80 years for the Serbian military and police, as well as foreign armies. First - I feel for those lost and their families.
However, since this is a shooting forum I will move on the other direction. I doubt that the ammo they produce there makes much difference in our markets. But, I'm sure that just like two rain drops on a tenth story window of the merchantile building in downtown Chicago drives corn, bean and wheat futures plummeting, this will drive ammo up.

I hope that the loss of this one foreign ammo manufacturer does not affect our market.

Save it for a collectors item since the plant is now in Bosnia, and Bulgaria, and Hungary,and Croatia.
Yes, I know it's crass to make jokes about the plant blowing up, but crap happens, it's part of life and it's not even close to the scale of a REAL disaster like the Texas City Grain elevator.

Saddening there was loss of life. Prvi ammo is "budget" ammo, but ammo none the less, and I hope the ammo market is not as "sensitive" to blips as the oil industry...

I don't really see it having much effect as I remember seeing an article about them in one of the Gun mags, they seem to have factories all over Central Europe.

It is a terrible loss for those families. I have a couple of thousand rounds of Privi....the last "green tip" I bought was Privi. Works fine, not real dirty...cleaner than White Box. Got some .308 from them too....good stuff at a good price.
They were really under the radar screen as being a good solid quality ammo...in my book....a bargain.
