Well the other week I took possession of my new Ruger Mark iii Target, quite frankly it looked a little boring, so I was on the hunt for a few things to jazz it up and make it handle a little better.
You will note I have not got a sight for it yet - see my other thread (I AM A LITTLE MIFFED) lol.
any way as it came

It still however found one of the cats quite attractive OMG - only kidding honey (if you see this)

any way some parts came this week and I fitted them tonight, I still have to fit the Volquartsen trigger accurising kit but the cosmetic things I did tonight as well as pulled it apart and stoned a couple slightly sharp edges off it.
I think it is starting look a lot better, I just wish we had acces to pac-lite gear :'( :'(

Nice collection Sledge!
(and ya BEST have been kidding with the kitty!)
Is the wheelgun also a .22? NEVER MIND! On closer inspection I see it is a Redhawk in .44 Magnum.
-
Nice job on a great gun Sledge! I have to ask, is this just for target practice or are the Australian feral cats on the menu? ;D
FQ13 who is really hoping he doesn't see Haz junior on his doorstep with a bayonet. ;D ;D ;D

Looking good!
I'm sure you've told us,but where did you find the grips? I'm looking for a set for my second Mark III.
How do you like the Challanger?

Hehe, yeah its a first gen ruger redhawk made the first year of production and still nice and tight. Thinking about getting the cylinders polished just to smick her up, some of the full power load the cases stick a little on extraction.
and thanks!

The Grips are hogues extreme metal series grips, that I purchased through hornet products.
link to hogue sights http://www.getgrip.com/main/overview/ExtremeFlames.html
by challenger do you mean Charger?
If so then yes its a fun gun, especially if you have a large capacity mag, of which i do not because they are illegal :-X
I have fitted an after marker hornet products trigger kit to it and reduced the horrible trigger down by at least half and a crisp let off.
Even with stock barrell capable of a 15mm 10 shot group at 50 yrds.
Yeah I like it ;D

Nice toys sledge!! 8)

The grips look cool, but how do they feel? You say they're metal. Do they get slick? Not that it matters that much with a .22, but just curious.

How does the compensator affect the balance of the gun? Seems like a lot of extra weight to stick out there.
Do you think a .22 will have the pressure required to make the compensator effective?
Other than that, it looks cool.
I have 2 Mark II's. I would like a Mark III, but I know the second I buy one, Ruger will come out with a better model.

I had a friend (lost an argument with a Freightliner on his way home from work early one morning) that had a Mark II with a comp. I don't know if the comp worked, and he didn't either. But, the added weight in itself really balanced the gun Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

The grips really "kooled " up the looks..
Blue is nice..............................................
Didn't they have purple?? ?? ?? ? ? ?? ?? ;) ;D ;D
-
Man those grips a sweet, and the comp at the end really makes it pop. Thanks for the porn. ;D

Yes, one does...
I chuckled when I read this.

Well it is for another 2.75 hours LOL
I went down the range today and as I mentioned had not fired it before, so just before the comp I spoke to the RO and got an ok to throw half dozen shots down range just to see where its pointing.
I put up a target about 10 yrds away and fired a few rounds and they were grouping about 2inches low but in inline made a small adjustment what I thought would be ok and left it.
The Comp was over two distances 5o metres/yrds and 20 metres/yards. for both pistol and rifle.
Ended up scoring 103/120 for 50m and 113/120 for 20m with the pistol ;D enough to take out 1st place for the day <insert dancing gif> so I figure its shooting ok LOL much to the amazement on onlookers an fellow shooters hehe.
I was using Winchester Power Points and they seem to work ok, I did have one jam but I am thinking its a mag issue, the top lip of one seems very tighy I will pull them apart and have good look this week.
I did not have enough time to sit down after and try various ammos through it and rest it, but I am sure it will be quite the shooter.
According to one fellow the compensator did make quite a bit of difference, he watched one guy with his Ruger target GC same length barrel and me with mine and noticed an appreciable amount of difference in its recoil. I guess its going to stay on.
I have of course still got to fit the volq accurising kit so hoping that will pull a little more perfomance out of it and decrease the trigger pull, damn it takes a long time to break atm.
So after its first outing I am happy.
Now for the scope :-) to those kind fellows that offered to help before expect a pm some time this week ;D
-
another update.
I installed the volquartsen trigger accurising kit today and what a difference. The pull is reduced to less than half of what it was, the scales I used werent the best but from what I can see its around the 2lb mark now, most likely a little less.
The pretravel adjustment on the trigger also makes a lot of difference, before was like pulling up an anchor now its probably no more than a couple thou of an inch if that.
The extended slide release is also a lot more ergo friendly all in all quite happy.
Took the time to do a little rubbin back on the bolt as well as it had a couple small rough patches nothing major but enough for me to notice. I think I might pull it apart again and give it a good polish up and a decent lube on it and then use the hell out of it.
The only other thing I am considering is an after market extractor for a more positive extraction and eliminate the possible chances of jam.
BTW also have the burris fastfire 11 scope on its way from the US a company calle theopticzone.com is willing to send and its cheaper than opticsplanet ;D

Sounds like a fun project Sledge!
When you get done we, all us other Mark III owners, are going to need you to post a parts list, work list and results ... Maybe you can get a Midway USA or Brownells endorsement while your at it ;)
This winter was going to be spent turning one of my Mark III's into a steel gun. However, because I agreed to take on some responsibilities with our Church's midweek for youth I won't be shooting bullseye, so the bullseye gun is going to get some upgrades as well. Should be a fun tinkering winter.
-
Anybody know If I can get a set of those for my AMT Backup .45? ;D

When I get her finished I will put an article together and show the reults of my fruition.
Certainly has been intersting getting the stuff together considering where I live and the fun one has to goto with getting parts etc.
I still would love one of the pac-lite receivers and uppers but I figure the likely hood of that happening is about the same as me bumping my bum against the moon.
Its a shame that our market force is not strong enough to encourage companies to make it worth while to have a distributor/agent etc here :(
Even more sad is the amount that they charge if things are available, I dont care what companies say but I can not accept that there is not some gouging going on with in the firearm industry over here, when the industry, dealers etc should be supporting shooters no matter what type to buy more, encourage others to start shooting etc ultimately it will come back and bite them in the butt when there is no one left to buy at their highly over inflated prices.

Just an update, I got my burris fastfire ii sight today (upu Optics planet ;D )

Thanks Haz,
There is not much more I can do with it now, unless I can find a way of importing a pac-lite upper and barrel, its already cost me enough at moment, I am thinking I might just shoot the hell out of it as it is LOL
When I installed the trigger kit I gave the bolt a good work over too, was rubbing a little in places, I placed some blue texta on te bolt and slid it in and out a few times to see where it marked on the bolt and then gave it a little clean up with some 300gr wet and dry, tried it again and done the same. Later that night when i had time I stepped the paper up to 600 grit and gave a light over all clean up and then polished it with magquires stainless steel polish and buffing wheel on the dremel, came up nice and shiny and slicker than snot! No more rub marks and cycles like its on bearings.
Just need some more times to run it in, put through 200rnds the other day and only misfire I had was caused by me having the pretravel screw wound down too much. After that was a little ripper to shoot.

Looks great sledg! 8) 8)

Does the compensator actually make any difference on a .22 ?

Surprisingly yes it does, not sure whether its the weight or the ports but it does reduce muzzle flip quite well compared to similar mark ii with out one.
