Title: I WENT TO THE GUN SHOW TODAY......
Post by: Walter45Auto on September 12, 2009, 07:56:04 PM
Sold a shotgun, and traded a single action revolver (Yes, that means I no longer have a gun chambered for .45 Colt.) for an AMT backup .45 to use as a pocket gun. Went out there hoping to trade towards a 5 shot .357 snub, either hammerless or with a shrouded hammer, but I only saw one, a S&W 340, which I can't quite afford. Plenty of them in .38, but only one in .357. I may have missed another one or two, because there were a couple tables I didn't get to look at, but it's the only one I saw. Saw a Winchester 94 out there for $350. I also bought a Stag arms completed Lower with a CAR stock on it. Bought another 40 round mag for my AR 15. I'm gonna make this AR in 7.62x39. There was also 2 guys who had .380 ammo on their tables. So my dad bought a box of hollow points and a box of hardball for his .380. Tried to sell my Charles Daly Maxi-mag field too, but didn't get any takers.

Put my Olympic Upper on this Stag lower, and I can see it fits together a LOT better than on the Olympic Lower. I don't plan to shoot it like that. But if I did, I'm sure I wouldn't get an eye full of smoke on the second shot Like I do with my Olympic. But, that's a big part of why I wanted to build another AR.

I had fun at the gun show. ;D 8)

Fun - and busy too.

I just found out yesterday that we are getting a new gun show here at the end of October. Normally, the regularly scheduled show - still on - is early January. More fun!  ;D

It must be nice to live in an area where you can go to a real gun show.

On a side note, I love my M&P340 .357 mag. It is so comfortable in my pocket that i forget its there. I think you would really enjoy it. I keep it loaded with Hornady .38 +P, but .357's are manageable regardless of what other people say about it.

Good luck in finding what you are looking for.

Yeah I'd love to have one, but I don't have the extra $700-$800 to put up for it.  :-X Taurus and S&W must produce more .38 Special revolvers than they do .357's...... I guess I gotta have my local gun shop keep an eye out for a Taurus 651 for me..... Oh, and I checked out the new LG 375 laser grips while I was there. The ones that fit the Judge and the 617. I thought they'd be bulkier than the ones already on my 617, but they're about the same size. Barely any difference at all.

The Guy I bought the upper from had the Stag for $225 and the Rock River fro $235. I had to take a few ninutes to decide between the two. The guy said the Rock Rover would keep more resale value, but I got the Stag, because I don't plan to sell it. And I think the Stag logo looks awesome. If I was planning to resell it I'd build it in 5.56 instead of 7.62x39. But I plan to keep it and shoot it, and possibly deer hunt with it. Now if I can find a 7.62 upper that has a chrome lined bore.....

Went to a show locally myself.  MB was right...DPMS AR for under 6 and complete lowers for under 2.  Ammo was plentiful and reasonable except for .380 and it was $35 and up.  Lots of CCI primers and a few Fed. $35 and up.

It's about time.... Glad to hear it. Although, call me paranoid, but with one speech from Eric Holder, or one stroke of a Executive Order from BHO, it may all start again...

I saw a DPMS I thought about buying which with tax would have come to about $715. But we looked at completed receivers and figured it comes out to about the same price, plus 7.62x39 ammo is easier to find; for now.... Found an AK47 75 round drum  this morning at Sportsman's guide for $149. Saw a few at the gun show for $265. I ordered the $149 one this morning. 8)
