As Y'all pretty much know I just got a Stag Arms lower this past weekend at the gun show. I'm gonna get a 7.62x39 flat top upper. I have a cheapo red dot sight that I'm gonna mount on the gun at first, but I'd like to eventually get something better than a little old $20 or $30 traveling tool show special.
This is it if you're curious.

Also I want to put flip up iron sights on it. So Are there a particular brand of flip up sight y'all suggest? And what red dot optic would you go with??
And while we're all here, what sling would you go with??

i bought my first aimpoint in 97 and haven't looked back since, great optic.

I just bought a set of the magpul BUIS, and for the price I'm happy. As long as they stay down when I don't need them, and are available as a BACKUP for my red dot going down, why pay more?

A statement I whole heartedly agree with. :)

I bought my front and rear for $80. TOTAL.
BTW, I thought you needed a different lower to use 7.62x39 than the standard .223? I thought that's why we have 5.5 and 6.8 fighting it out.

I found a used eotech 512 for $200 on AR-15. com and love it. Its got a one minute dot and is bright enough I can point it at a white roof in the Fl. summer sun and it doesn't wash. Plus it uses AAs which I consider a bonus.

I don't think so, Cartridge LENGTH is the determining factor, and the AR 15 mag well is long enough to accommodate the 7.62X39.

I wasn't sure myself, so I asked one of the AR parts sellers and he said, I'll need to use a different magazine than a standard AR, but the lower for a 5.56/223 will work.

Common batteries are a definite plus with electronics.

When I use BUIS, I prefer the Troy Industries front/rear models.
