I see the banner outside, what do you think it'll be? Is SIG bringing their AR to the US? Will it be the Ruger LCS, the Light Compact Shotgun? Para finally re-launching their .223 AR? Is it the
Magpul Bushmaster Remington Masada ACR release?
What do YOU think?

Its just a dressed up 10/22
(http://gunblast.com/images/Ruger-SR22/DSC08850.JPG)
The SR-22 rifle comes with a ten-shot rotary magazine, but can use any reliable aftermarket magazine, such as this Ramline fifty-shot mag.
Barrel attaches just like any 10/22, allowing the use of aftermarket barrels

Holy cow! A 10/22. I bet this will be one of the best selling .22 rifles ever made. Way to go Ruger!
What?
It's been around forever and they're just putting lipstick on it?
Way to go Ruger for creating something you've already created!

Thats basically it in a nut shell. IMO, This is really not a good business move for them.... it does not meet the consumers need for this particular market segment... It does not replicate practicing with an AR. It replicates shooting a 10/22 with a pistol grip.
*The Mags are a totally different style
*The mag release is a totally different style/location
*The safety is a completely different style/location
*There is no traditional AR style charging handle
*You can't do any iron sight training
*Rails must be purchase for attaching accessories on the forearm
*Did I mention the price? The MSRPs for dedicated AR-22s by Smith or Colt are $500
I dont think people that are looking for an economical way to get some AR practice are going to buy this rifle -- 10/22 enthusiasts might, but they can AR out their own 10/22 for much less money. This just does not give consumers what they are looking for when making this type of purchase...... and for far less money they can go out and buy a conversion kit, a .22 upper, or a dedicated AR-22.
IMO, this way of entering the AR-22 market is pretty much a cop out. This is not an AR-22, it is a dressed up 10/22........ and a pricey one at that.
-
I have to ask, what is Ruger thinking? Do they not consult with consumers or real shooters? Are they so arrogant to think that just because they make it that someone will want it?
Whoever thought up this idea should be fired.
On the other hand, it probably isn't costing them much on the manufacturing side.

How many 10/22 enthusiast are there. ;) Its RUGER, once it goes down in price it'll be totally worth it to the enthusiast. I was right there balking at the SR556 with the rest of you. But now that its gone down to $1600, I'm finding my self saving for one. Let this one settle and most will take to it all right. For an overall practice carbine, not just AR, get that thought out of your head, it'll probably do.

As the price of SR-22 comes down, so will the MSRP real world price of the dedicated AR-22s put out by Smith or Colt.

Yes, if nothing else, it adds to the competition pool.

No, my point was that as the SR22 SR10/22 declines in price, the prices of dedicated AR-22s will also decline proportionately in price...... It will be very hard for Ruger to find buyers for this gun in this market segment at a higher price point then other guns that actually fill the needs of this niche of consumers.
