One more little freedom that the fine folks of CA will never miss.
To: Cabela's California Customers

Subject: California Assembly Bill 962
Date: Sept. 22, 2009
We are writing to inform you of pending legislation that will restrict purchases of handgun ammunition in California and will terminate our ability to service your needs for certain products.
On Friday, Sept. 11, the California Assembly passed Assembly Bill 962, by a 44-31 vote.
Among other regulations, AB 962 would:
• Ban all mail-order and Internet sales of handgun ammunition.
• Prohibit the retail sale, the offer for sale or the display of handgun ammunition in a
manner that allows ammunition to be accessible to a purchaser without assistance of a
vendor or employee.
• Require that the delivery or transfer of ownership of handgun ammunition occur in a
face-to-face transaction, with the deliverer or transferor being provided bona fide
evidence of identity of the purchaser or other transferee.
That evidence of identity, which must be legibly recorded at the time of delivery, includes:
• The right thumbprint of the purchaser or transferee.
• The date of the sale or other transaction.
• The purchaser's or transferee's driver's license or other identification number and the
state in which it was issued.
• The brand, type and amount of ammunition sold or otherwise transferred.
• The purchaser's or transferee's signature.
• The name of the salesperson who processed the sale or other transaction.
• The purchaser's or transferee's full residential address and telephone number.
• The purchaser's or transferee's date of birth.
The bill is on the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, where it awaits his consideration. He will have until Oct. 11 to sign or veto the bill. If he does not veto the bill, it will become law.
If you wish to comment on AB 962, you may contact Gov. Schwarzenegger by phone at (916) 445-2841, or via fax at (916) 558-3160. To e-mail Gov. Schwarzenegger, visit

We encourage all Cabela's customers who participate in the shooting sports to contact Gov. Schwarzenegger to voice their opposition to this initiative, which will limit your opportunities to shop with Cabela's, and will restrict the sale of handgun ammunition everywhere in California.

I sent an email.
-
I fired him off a email, a phone call and sent him a hand written letter( on company letter head no less) on the 12...
I wonder if he knows how I feel about it?
-
Just boycott this (literally) God-forsaken effing state.
-
I would bet my county has more gun owners then ND has in population.
-
Email sent.
For all the good it will do.
-
TAB, have you seen an effective date for the bill if he does sign it?
I know some bills go in to effect the following July, but some have gone in sooner.
I still have 5 boxes of .380 on backorder from a July order. I hope it comes soon!

Too bad they won't E mail or write the Gov.

I'd bet less then 1% of them even know about this bill.
i'd bet less then 1% of the gun owners would know about this bill if it was federal.

Thanks TAB, the effective date is 2/1/2011.
This bill would, subject to exceptions, commencing February 1,
2011, require handgun ammunition vendors to obtain a thumbprint
and other information from ammunition purchasers, as specified.
A violation of these provisions would be a misdemeanor.
This bill would provide that a person enjoined from engaging
in activity associated with a criminal street gang, as specified,
would be prohibited from having under his or her possession,
custody, or control, any ammunition. Violation of these provisions
would be a misdemeanor.
The bill would prohibit supplying or delivering, as specified,
handgun ammunition to prohibited persons, as described, by
persons or others who know, or by using reasonable care should
know, that the recipient is a person prohibited from possessing
ammunition or a minor prohibited from possessing ammunition,
as specified. Violation of these provisions is a misdemeanor with
specified penalties.

I've been forwarding my NRA alerts to everyone I know out here as the bill has been progressing through Sacramento this year and all I keep hearing is that it will never become law.
I like the bill's definition of ammunition............
For purposes of this section, “ammunition” shall include,
but not be limited to, any bullet, cartridge, magazine, clip, speed
loader, autoloader, or projectile capable of being fired from a
firearm with deadly consequence. “Ammunition” does not include
blanks.

We have case law that state, all metalic cartarages are hand gun rounds since they make hand guns chambered for all of them.
shot shells are not currently listed as such.
-
the bill includes mags and speed loaders.

Good thing they don't allow The Judge be sold here or it would include .410 shot shells. I guess that's one positive.

Thanks Tom..........You are such a source of good news. Bond Arms aren't on the CADOJ approved list either.

the way they get around that is the same way they get past the min length for shot gun barrels and min OAL(federal law). they are chambered in 45colt, they just happen to have a longer chamber that can take 410s.

They also (at least in the T/C's ) is by using a rifled barrel so technically (with the .45 chambering ) it isn't a shotgun.
