Title: Sig commemoretive pistol
Post by: Swamp Yankee on September 25, 2009, 09:05:00 AM
Ok  Sig has offered to produce a minimum of 25 Pistols for our Unit  to commemorate our current deployement.
They can be a P220, P226, or a P229. I have been concidering the purchase of a 9mm carry gun for a while and was leaning towards the Taurus 709.  Now compared to the 229 it is single stack and has a polymer frame. The Taurus can be had for $385 and change from my local dealer. The Sig is All metal double stack and is about 1/2 the cost of listed retail. So a bit more            but with a good rep out of the box. The 709 is a new model with out a proven track record. But Taurus has always had a good rep also with most of there Guns though customer service can be questionable depending on who you talk to. So i would appreciate any input from the peanut gallary.
Thanks

I'll put another option out there for you.  The 34th Infantry Division "Red Bulls" from Minnesota had a commemorative pistol made from Para.  They did the order through a local gun shop in the Twin Cities.  I think they had “Desert Bulls” along with their Brigade patch engraved on the pistol.

If I had the opportunity to get a commemorative Sig for the unit I was in I would jump on it - price be damned.  If you plan on carrying it over there I would get the 9mm just for the ammo issue, otherwise get the .40S&W so you can get the .357sig barrel at a later date.

Thank you for your service and please be careful over there.

Personally I'd lean towards the proven record of the SIG.  The Taurus may be a good gun, but the SIG is a great gun and has been around a long time.  Plus look a the current crop of new pistols.  The last few totally new pistols have taken a couple years to get "right."  S&W M&Ps, Ruger SR9s,LCPs and Springfield XDs have had a slew of problems for the first couple of revisions.  Sure, anything mechanical could have problems but I've beat the living hell out of a P228/M11 and it still put everything on target.  Plus it's a commemorative so you'll only get one chance to get it.

Stay safe, keep your head down

Amen on the Sig, especially if it's a P229DAK. Jnevis is right on the money, Taurus may be good, Sig IS great, worth the extra money.

Also, amen+10000 on the stay safe part too - may you and your whole troop come back safe and enjoy the hell out of the Sigs.

Ok Thanks for the input, Since Para has Done one for us before I will pass on them. So a 229 it shall be thanks for the advice and I will keep a low profile hidden in my well fortified arms room. Just won't  be able to enjoy till I can get back to the States. So far it is quiet here and should stay that way. But then you never know. One thing for sure is the Sand Storms suck. No wat to escape them even indoors.

 Again Thanks

You know.... In all seriousness, If you were to actually let it see some combat then you might be able to sell it for a pretty penny on GunBroker once you get home..... might be able to put a nice down payment on a house...... just make sure you let it get all beat to hell and covered with "battle scars". ;)

Eric, unless you need to feed the Kids you don't sell something like that. That's for your Heirs to debate.

Hey Tom no there is not enough of them, it also fall under the 92 series but those guys can't be trusted. They can't even keep track of normal supply inventory control items. So they stick us 11 series guys in here.

As for you Ericire12 you are spending way too much time on Gunbroker I see. And are starting to develop a false sence of reallity
please get some help. ;D ;)

What He said. I'd go with the SIG, and at a later date, if ya still want the Taurus you can save up for it. This could be one of those "once in a lifetime, If ya don't get it you'll kick yourself in the butt forever" kind of guns. And POST PICS WHEN YOU GET IT!!!!

Well I talked to the misses about it the other day and now she wants one so now my order is up to 2 perhaps they will be serialized in series at least I would know which one was mine. Worst case  is she won't be able to operate it and I  will end up with both of them. ;D ;D. Then I would have to buy her something else a little easier to operate. I may end up getting one for my buddy Tommy  back in PA he is an avid collector and is interested, he is supposed to get back to me later in the week. some of the guys are trying to talk me into the P250 because they cant afford the 229  so if we do not get enough orders for the 229 I may end up with one of those.
