Title: My upcoming trip to Rogers Shooting School
Post by: fullautovalmet76 on September 29, 2009, 09:44:12 PM
Next week I take a "real" vacation for the first time in over 2.5 years. Needless to say, it's been long overdue.

In order to make the most of it, I wanted to go to a shooting school. I looked at Rob's CFS program but there are none in my area.... :( At the suggestion of a few friends, I'm going to Bill Rogers' school in Ellijay, GA.

I've seen some of the videos and read some reviews, and I think it will help me with speed and accuracy. On top of that I will be doing his shotgun course, and it is highly regard too. Supposedly, I'll shoot around 2,500 pistol rounds and approximately 200 shotgun rounds- mucho fun! Next weekend, I'll post my review and let you guys know what I think of the program.

Wish me luck!

Good luck FA, I like Bill Rogers, have not been to the school, but have watched it, hard, good work, The Action target range He has set up is state of the art, like playing pinball with a handgun. He is no nonsense, and will provide excellent marksmanship training, with a high regard for instinct, and cover.

Enjoy yourself, I'm jealous.

PS, pay attention, but he will make you anyway.

Awesome, FA. Tell Claude that I said "Hello".

I'd like to take that course at some point as well.

Looking forward to your review.

Kick butt FullAuto. Looking forward to your input. Took CFS just a couple of months ago with Paul White and Rob Pincus. I would have to say that CFS is the best training that I have recieved in or out of military and LE training. Straight up and in your face but you have to utilize your mind and concentrate on the dynamics of the situation. Thought, preparedness and training are the key elements for survival.

Hey, FA, I see you're in Florida. Which way are you traveling to Georgia? If you take I-75, watch yourself in Cook, Tift, Turner, and Crisp counties (mile #40- 100 or so). A lot of heavy construction going on and the law likes to hide on top of bridges (only legal for state law, but municipals do it anyway and get away with it because most people don't know the laws).

Anyway, have fun and be sure to let us know how it goes.

Hi Peg,
I'm in Jacksonville so I thought about U.S. 1 through Valdosta then over to 16 (I think) into Tifton and from there on up to Ellijay....It's been some time since I went that route, so I might go I-10 over to I-75....What's the price of gas in your area up there? It is usually cheaper in GA....

CFS is the best training that I have recieved ... Straight up and in your face...

I especially liked the part where while doing a reload, Pincus bumps into you and yells in your ear MOVE!

U.S. 1 (parallels I-95) will take you up through Waycross, about 65 miles east of Tifton. You could go to Waycross on US 1, then take US 82 west to Tifton and hit I-75.

Probably your best bet for time would be I-10 west to I-75 and then north. It will take you through Valdosta, Tifton and on to Atlanta and Ellijay.

I-16 only runs from Macon (100 miles north of Tifton) straight through to Savannah.

I'm in Tifton and the cheapest is at Wally-World and today it was $2.19.

And I liked it when I did the IDPA thing of retaining my magazine with a round in it and Rob, very tenderly, told me to give him my mags and then he proceed to throw them on the ground and kick dirt on them.....I could feel the love then.....  ;)

The coffee brandy quality of life?

Allen's Coffee Brandy is a Maine obsession.  also known as:

A & OK -- a reference to Oakhurst milk (OK) and the legendary Maine softdrink, S & OK Soda*

Gorilla Milk -- which the Urban Dictionary relates to the way the drink raises the Stupidity Factor, but which I have heard relates to the appearance of the ladies drinking it (I know, not very friendly)

 Sombrero

 The Champagne of Maine

 Fat Ass in a Glass

Liquid Leg Spreader -- as described by the Mainah Glossary blog

 Biddeford Martini

Liquid Panty Remover

May go against the grain but,

"then he proceed to throw them on the ground and kick dirt on them.....I could feel the love then" from FA

Yep and double yep. Good stuff.

And yes I like the reloads Don.  :)

Interested in the feedback from the Rogers Shooting School. Glad to have found so many different types of training while on DRTV. Broadens the mind!!!  ;D

Re: My upcoming trip to Rogers Shooting School

We aren't off topic at all ...

Alcohol
Tobacco
Firearms

We started with shooting (firearms), progressed to drinking (alcohol), and now we are just waiting for advice from Jaybet on cigars (tobaccy)  ;D

Yeah... well... uh... you can expect a different teaching approach from Claude. He's a little more laid back than I am.

Also, you can forget about passing their course of fire without gaming it. The times are just too short and you know that each target only takes one hit.... so, you do what you gotta do. Don't expect to be able to pull off lateral movement between targets! Luckily, you're brain will know what is coming and the fields of fire are pretty narrow, so the ol' swing-the-gun method of transferring between targets will work! Just don't forget about context when you leave.
