My scope rings from Smith Enterprises arrived yesterday, and I was totally impressed with the ruggedness and quality of these rings! To put it mildly, these are the absolute strongest rings I've ever come across.

They are the only rings that are manufactured by the wire EDM process. This process allows the rings to be machined to extremely close tolerances without inducing any stress what so ever into the material. Most milled rings require thermal stress relieving to achieve this.

Wire EDM machining takes time, lots of it. To manufacture this type of shape in this type of material, (4130 steel), to these tolerances takes several hours, hence the high cost. One thing that I was surprised about was the rings were shipped with a matching set of double flanged, 1" split inserts. This allows the mounting of 1" tube scopes as well as 30 MM models without having to purchase any type of ring reducers. A really nice feature. If you are looking for the toughest, strongest rings money can buy, these are it! I'll post some pics when I get everything mounted up on my new Bushmaster BA-50 today. I have to pick up an inch pounds torque wrench this morning. I want to mount these things properly.  Bill T.

Wire EDM is amazing technology.  My old company used to send stuff out that we could not machine to tolerances required cost effectively.  Problems arose when we lacked the measuring equipment required to qualify the parts.

A company I was working for was making  a sleeve for the Aerospace industry, they had to buy air gauges to check the dimensions.

Here she is with everything mounted up. As soon as the Rosin comes I'll pull the ring caps and apply it, and she'll be ready for the range!  Bill T.

Thanks guys. Just to let you know, most of the .50 BMG shooters I've spoken with use this stuff on their scope rings. Many swear by it. All have said they've never had a scope move on a .50 BMG with it. It's cheap insurance, that's for sure. Just thought I'd pass it along.  Bill T.
