hi, can any of you cats tell me why my tiger sprays lead all over the place and will not "0" i can get it to "0"@ 50yd,but after that@100 will start to come close then just goes all over the place.this is the third scope ive had on this thing, and its still doin the same thing.im goin to get a nother new side mount, but this time its going to place the scope right over the barrel to see if that will do the trick,so any help or input on this would really be appreciated. thanks ..........s.k. ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

If its a .308 it may be bullet size. The 7.62x54 is usually a .310 bullet and 7.62x51 is .308. If thats not the case maybe the mount is coming loose or its the type of ammo. Some 7.62x54r rifles shoot the lighter stuff better than the heavy. You might want to find 7n14 or 7n1 (148 grain Spitzer)russian loads that may fix your problem.

A lot of variables could be at play:
Bullet diameter--as mentioned by Mauserman
Bullet weight
Barrel twist rate-- comes into play with the above bullet weight
Loose mounts
Sloppy or loose fit of the receiver to the stock-- causing flexing
Shifting or erratic pressure being applied to the barrel by the stock
Rate of fire-- barrel heat
I know I'm missing some............ there are others more learned than I that can expand further on this.
Also, distance from muzzle to target will amplify variables and errors increasingly.

thanks guys for your input! its not the mount being lose i just went all thru that today before i went out, tread locked and tightend every screw on it. sorry i didnt say it is a (54r),and ive been mostly been puttin 148gr thru it. i cleaned it last night took it apart and bore sighted it @ 50yds by lookin thru the barrel at a ribbon on a fense, lined the scope up to it ribbon. i goes out to day to try it agine, and the first shot @ 50yds witch should have been a foul shot was a bulls i but would it do it agine..............".NO" it goes 4" to the left, and runs a ten shot group and i could not get it to pull back over. finally i get it back over to the bulls eye,or 1/2" from bulls eye for three shots then it takes of agine in one direction or the other. after awhile i get it close agine,so i start tryin 100yd. i hang a clay pigon over my target, shot and im 8"low on one side or the other by this time ive went thru 40 rounds, and tiked off and out of 148s so i take a gallon jug of water out to 200yd come back and stick some 171s in it take three shots after barrel cooled bown a little.i aimed at the top of the jug and hit all three times in the very bottom left.now the only thing i can fig. to do is try and get one of those mounts that will put the scope right over the barrel, and not off to the side like the commies have it.like i said this has been a on going prob for a long time, like i think 12 years or more.i get fed up with fighting with it,then ill just put it away for a year or so then ill get it out and try it agine for a week or so. ill get that mount, and try that if it dont work, guess ill try and find a gun smith that can fight with it. thanks agine guys

Is the scope straight, level, and true in the rings ?
Are the screws tightened beyond 18 inch /pounds ? this can cause flexing or crushing of the scope.
If everything is tight and immovable the point of impact should not shift, If you fire a group, adjust the scope onto the point of impact and it does not move POI closer to POA you probably have a scope problem.

thanks tombogan03884 ! im thinking the mount isnt true,it looks to me like it goes off to a slight angle, and this is not the first mount ive got that did this.got one far a mac 91 that i couldnt sight in,after a long time i figured it out.it very well could be a crush scope, because i really put that stuff on tight, side mount, rings, didnt hear anything break thou. guess ill send it back and have it checked out,ive only had it a month.other then that the gun works great, you just cant hit a barn after the first shot @100yd, but it will group @50 and thats 2" or 3"of to the left but if i try to move it over it just starts scattering, and i have to start all over to no avail,if im lucky i get the same thing (if im lucky) ill order over the barrel side mount this week and see what that gets me,that dont work ill send the scope back for a check up.thanks agine tombogan!

Have you just tried using the iron sights? I would try that, if your not that good with irons, find a buddy who is and let he/she try it, that will separate the optics vs rifle issue.
-
bore sighted it @ 50yds by lookin thru the barrel at a ribbon on a fense, lined the scope up to it ribbon.
Have you tried a laser bore sight? It helped me quite a bit to get darn close to zero at 50, than slight adj.
They snug in the muzzle, or even the ones that are an actual cartridge, crosshairs to little red dot.
Just my .02 cents.

m25operator .........good thinkin! really never gave that a thought, but then agine i think i did,and the reason i never did it was because, the but stalk is so short that i cant even put my cheek on it to use it. im going to try that anyways so i can find out once and for all if its the gun or the scope. thanks m25 for the idea that is sure going to get tryed!

Have you adjusted the mount cam lock so it clamps tightly ? They are adjustable. The scope may be bad.. What kind of scope are you using ?

TomS308 , yes the side mount is tight on both the commie scoupe 6x42,and the new 100.00 side mount i got for the 10x40x50 ncstar (new).i took it out the other day and tryed to shoot clay pigon @ 50yd,and @100yd with paper target behind it so i could see where its hitting (this was with iron sights) could not hit the paper or pigon @ 100yd,but at 50yd got the pigon @the low right hand corner.put up another pigon @ 50yds and tryed it agine, and could not hit anything.i see where some one before me moved the front iron over to the right just off center of the mark thats stamped in it.i dont have a tool to move it back over to center, but i do have a sks tool that works to move the elev. up or down witch i did,i screwed it down a little. but havent tryed it yet .does anyone know where i can get a new barrel!
-
Did you get this from Century ?
And while I hate giving bad news to people who are new here, I'm afraid that changing the barrel may be far more involved than you expect.
-
tombogan03884,no i got it at a gun show about 12 years ago,and have never been able to get it to hold any thing close to a (o) its a b-west tuc az

Try shooting lightballs, makes all the difference in my PLS
-
I have this rifle in PSL and had the same problem. Changed ammo to the heavier bullets which are longer and ride the bore better.
Settled it right down.
The surplus 147 grain stuff is hit or miss in quality AND all of it is corresive ( do not believe it is not ) so clean you weapon with Hoppe's #9 etc.
Hope this is of help.
