DW,
That is a great pic! but it brings me to my on going problem.
I am 53 and my son is 14. Other than the canned hunt we did for a hog neither of us have hunted. I have acquired the proper firearms and hunters safety course for us. As well as teaching my son to shoot well.
My problem is learning the laws. I have read the hunting regs for Florida at least 10 times and still do not have a clue, I think they were written by Philadelphia lawyers to confuse people.
Yes, I have asked for help from every hunter I know and many I don't. For all of the lip service about getting new hunters I have found ZERO help. It's always "Read the rules. I know what they are where I go but you need to figure them out for where you want to go". Which translates as "I have my spot and I don't want to share, good luck!"
I am not out for trophies. I think hunting is about learning about nature and bringing meat home for the table. In my view a good animal to take is an older one or one that needs to be taken for the health of the heard.
The hunt should include the gutting and butchering as well as the eating. Unfortunately I cannot find a mentor so my only option is paying 1500 plus for a trophy hunt which I neither desire nor can afford.
Rant over for now.

Sorry Hazcat you can't find a good Mentor. Maybe a local gun club could be useful?
Call your local Game Warden ( or what ever you call them in Fla.) he might be able to point you in the right direction as for the laws and where to hunt.
Also if there is some farm land in the area check with the landowner to see if you can hunt it. Offer to check the fences, do small repairs and (or) pick up trash in return. You may be surprised it might be an older Gent with nobody to go hunting with.
Good Luck!
Don, I know I strayed off thread but we do that around here. ;D

Great idea! Here's my son working out on a 686 under Mom's watchful eye.

No pics of her shooting??? ;D I don't have any kids to teach to shoot. But I did let a boy at the range shoot my Ruger P90 once (With his dad's permission, of course.).
