One of the "Perks" of being Fire Chief is I got to play with the IR camera.  Works great in the winter time for finding warm things in the dark.  While not night vision I could count most of the points on a buck at 200 yards and find mice in a blizzard.  Also works for finding bad guys hidden in a fence row on a cool night.

Wow, I think a flashlight would just be a lot simpler and more cost effective ::)

I have a 2nd generation scope (not weapon mounted) I have had for a long time. Its only a 2x and has an illuminator in total darkness. Runs real good off starlight. I use it when I need to see out in the cove or the lake behind the house mostly, for odd noise in the dark outside.
