Title: 1911 Anniversary
Post by: doggiedoc on October 17, 2009, 04:40:41 PM
With the 100 year anniversary of the 1911 a few months away, I was wondering if anyone has plans for any anniversary models.  What kind of things would everyone like to see on an anniversary model?  Thought it would be fun to hear all the ideas out there.

Interesting, the 25, 50, 75 anniversary's came and went, but something special for 100....
Hmmmmmm...

IMHO, keep it simple. For example,

Mostly to honor what was made 100 years ago, and why it has not really, changed in form and function.

As long as its honoring the 100 year tradition.

Got to keep it real.

and,....my personal favorite, as it's mine,....

Just some porn and thoughts, like looking at a vintage Cadillac, the lines, the distinctiveness..

Just because..

They already have a "retro" Model 70.

I think just a few cosmetic changes, offer it in Commander and Government sizes, stamp it "100th Year" would be all it takes.  Maybe a wooden display case or something.  I've owned my Mod 70 close to 40 years...wow!

Ah and you have no problem with TW's last picture?

Did I forget to insert a lower third, "REMOTE CAMERA",  in my picture?

I like the idea of a 1911, 1911, complete with all the original safeties and such, like the Para GI expert, sort of, and of course the original Colt Blue, best on the planet. But I don't buy these types of pistols to rest, they must be shot. I like the many over the years, 1911 A1 offerings, that were bare bones, but great base line pistols. Name them, it did not matter, Springfield, Colt, even Norinco. Works with ball off the shelf, just needs a little trigger work, and sight upgrades, unless it did not shoot to point of aim.

Eric hates me, until he gets to visit.

and I have 3 more in the building state. 1 a Les Baer, matched slide and frame with bomar cuts, Les Baer barrel, and nearly done.

A 1911 with JMB's image laser engraved on one side and "First 100 Years" on the other.

Think about the genius it took to design so many types of firearms that are still in use to day....not just the 1911.

:)  I have to say, "I love my 1911!"  It feels like I am shooting a real gun when I pull the trigger.  Call me crazy, but I like the "manly" kick!

I have been offered a US M1911 A1 US ARMY that has U S Property.  Can civilians own these?

Why not?  Thousands were sold as surplus or handed down from GI's coming home from the war to family members.

+1 After 100 years, a tribute to its initial designer is a good call.

I think JMB would look down and smile as his mostly unchanged design is still the "go to" pistol platform loved by so many.
