If you aren't in the habit, you guys must listen to this week's radio program for Michael's short observation on how niche politics is being viewed. This one definitely hit the 10 ring.

+1 Rastus, agree complete. Great point, and mirrors how I view people in general.
I actually have 2 tripwires - 2A and the Boy Scouts. These are the two issues that converted me from mindless liberalism to my current conservative stance. Both stand on their own - in favor of the Scouts but against 2A, and you're out. Same in reverse.
I now have lots of little 2A-related goodies (but not nearly enough), and I served as an Assistant Scoutmaster in a Troop for over ten years. National security, i.e., the Mexican border and immigration, is rapidly becoming a 3rd tripwire.

I think it is just a strategy designed to divide the voters by putting in their mind this, "niche." In reality everybody has their issues. there is no such thing as "niche" politics. When it comes to voting for someone who is pro-gun rights you aren't just voting because they'll help you keep your toys. You're voting based upon a principle. A principle that states that you will not entrust with your vote a candidate who openly supports a policy that reflects his/her mistrust of the general populace based upon a MINORITY of individuals who choose to abuse or misuse a firearm. If voting for someone who has faith in his/her countrymen. Or voting for someone who sees his countrymen as something greater than the lowest common denominator. Someone who believes the majority of his countrymen are upright, responsible, human beings. Then that is one HELL of a, "Niche."

I agree. Now that I've gotten over the initial reaction and thought a bit...."niche politics" just "litmus test" being repackaged. I guess "they" figured that "litmus test" was getting too old to get a rise out of the voters. The spin doctors are hard at work over yonder in Washington D.C.
All of the anti-gun people (democrat and republican) know we are a force to be reckoned with in the voting booth.
I'm the NRA....and I always vote for the 2nd Ammendment!
