Title: Reloads Browning hp
Post by: ismram on November 24, 2007, 11:52:56 AM
Hi guys and gals. I am a new member my name is Garth. I have been shooting IDPA for a short time and just started reloading. I have a Browning HP in 40 S&W. I am trying to get a light recoil, for fast follow up shots. but I am getting a lot of feeding problems. My OAL is 1.125 and I put a 18lbs recoil spring in. Any hints for me?

Has the HP been throated? Seen some finicky .40s in that regard. Always had pretty good luck with 180-gr lead in mine...

No, but it allways worked great with factory ammo 165 gr with the same OAL.

Since you are new to reloading I don't know what you have checked as far as your reloads goes except OAL but you might try taking out the barrel and chamber checking finished rounds or if you have a Dillon Go/No Go gage use it to check your rounds...You might need to crimp a little more.  Try seating a few rounds a little shorter/longer keeping track of OAL of each small batch.  Keep track of which mag causes problems/or do they all?  Is the barrel factory stock or match?  Are you only using brass fired in your gun?  (Sometimes brass from other pistols might be the problem especially in a match barrel).  Have an experienced reloader in your IDPA club check your rounds

In general, I found my BHP .40 less sensitive to OAL than crimp, FWIW...

Thank;s guys great info!! I guess that I have my work cut out. I have a stock and a match barrel, I'll make small loads for each and see where it takes me!
