I ran across an add for one of these. I know Norinco has a good rep, but I am unfamiliar with the MAK-90. Anybody have any wisdom? I'm not so much looking to purchase as just curious.

Ruffly 14 years old, around 3,000 rounds, never a fail to fire yet. Has a double claw trigger some prefer (I don't think it matters). Any and every AK magazine I've tried works like a Timex watch in it, as does every type of ammo I've tried.
The factory stock can be cut down into a pistol grip fairly easily, or just thrown away. The composite stock I've got was about $50 bucks 10 years ago, and is the same price now. You have to watch what stock you buy because the MAK reciever has a little angled cut at the rear / bottom end. This one fit perfectly.

Will the place that has them ship? (I'd like to have another!)

FQ has the MAK, GP100, "gun" flu.. ::)
Range time is the only cure..., although fondling firearms with a large portion of gun oil has been known to temporarily slow down the symptoms...

Hey now! I'm not looking to buy, just to educate myself. AKs come in so many flavors that its hard to get ahold of whats the best model. This is purely an academic exercise. It doesn't stop me from being curious though. The same basic design produced in a dozen different countries. Who gets it right?

What was the Price ? Gun store here tacks on a zero to anything Norinco.
I had 1 for about 2 weeks when the AWB went into effect, I hated the stock so bad I traded for something else. but that was back before I knew about ATI, now I would just do as BM says, replace the stock.

Mak 90's are great guns for the money. They run run an never quit, its about the only thing the Chinese make that doesnt fall apart. Change the stock. ;D

I can't speak for all MAK's, but mine, and my SKS both like the 154 grain hollow points WOLF sells. The MAK will hold between 2" & 2.5" groups with it, and the SKS will do about the same (2" average). The SKS has choked on feeding them once or twice, but no issue's with the MAK. Hand loads don't improve things, but I've only tried 120 grain bullets. The regular 122, and 123 grain FMJ stuff I've used Golden Bear, Brown Bear, Yogi Bear, whatever, has all shot worse groups in both guns, but feeds better in the SKS.
The crack from the MAK's muzzle will ring your ear's for days after just a few rounds! WEAR EAR PROTECTION!!!
I paid $169 bucks for my MAK at a Roses department store here in SC YEARS ago. Saw them for sale last year for as high as $750!
One thing I'll say for the FMJ stuff... Several times I've shot it through between 4 or 6 good size tree's before stopping! Zombie's had better have a LOT more than a car door to hide behind if your guning for them! It ain't like the movies! ;)

Local gun store has one, they want $1500 for it. Did I mention they have had it for at least 9 months ?
He thinks it's a collectors item.

It will be at that price, only he'll be the collector. ;D Honestly, prices are dropping on almost everything other than ammo as folks realize that an AWB ain't in the cards, minus an x factor. BO can't get his health care passed, and has bigger fish to fry than us. I wouldn't expect a roll back on existing regs, but I can't seriously see the Dems picking a fight on this issue when they are struggling to keep their campaign promises as 2010 gets closer.

The guy that bought the local gun store is a total dick. He used to have a pawn shop in the next town and while I never did any business with him there he just had a dick personality. Now sometimes he has something at a reasonable price like a G 20 for $475 but normaly he's higher than the balls on a giraffe. SKS, $450. Winchester and Marlin lever guns starting at $600 beat.

I've owned 2, both bought real cheap and used for trading fodder, both went to friends, who have no complaint toward reliability. Others have the same experience, I would recommend 1 any time, it works just like any other AK with all the low points, and all the strong points, the stock does suck, but is usable.

Me too. the only thing to watch for is that after market stocks, except for the Druganov style, dont fit because of the angle of the rear of the receiver. $1500 is definitly wishful thinking on the part of the shop owner

Enough MAK stocks, bolt on do dads, and accesories to satisfy even an AR.
