Title: New Shotty
Post by: cdcasey on November 07, 2009, 12:35:18 PM
I just got a NEF Pardner Pump for home defense and am looking at putting my own touches on it.  I am getting a Knoxx Recoil Reducing Stock so the wife will be more willing to pick it up in case of emergency if needed.  I also want to replace the front bead sight (standard brass bead) with something more visible in low light conditions.  Does anyone know what the thread size is for the pardner pumps.  I was hoping to be able to put Meprolight's tru-dot tritium sight on if it will work.  Any help would be great!

CD,

I bought one of these early in the year to put a bunch of rounds through to see how it would hold up. It has done really well so far, with a few hundred rounds of buck and a similar number of birdshot. I also fired about 5 slugs through it at one point.

Tritium might be a bit much for your gun.. keep in mind that you have to have enough light to be able to identify the threat that should give you enough contrast to see a larger front bead without needing the glow. If you want "brighter" anyway, you might look at one of the fiber optic type front sights or a larger white replacement bead.

Make sure that the stock is short enough for your wife to shoot comfortably. The Knoxx is great for repeated shooting in a training environment, but not going to be as important during the critical incident. Fit is a better place to focus for intuitive use during a fight.

The potential advantages of the side by side are:

1. Simplicity of use.
2. the short Overall Length with legal barrel length, because you don't have a long "action" like you would on a pump or semi.

Disadvantages are obviously the low capacity and slow reload. For sitting in a barricade position and waiting for the calvary, it certainly isn't a horrible choice!

Rob thanx for the reply, I put money down on one for Xmas. I was thinking of using some from SASS's ideas on my side by side.
