Title: 2 New Yugo Underfolders!
Post by: billt on November 18, 2009, 03:16:45 PM
I made the trip up to J&G Sales this morning looking for a couple of nice underfolders. The Yugo Underfolders leave the Romanian's in the dust. Absolutely zero comparison. These rifles were so nice, I BOUGHT 2! All they had were wood forends so I paid the same price as for a plastic. Basically, I got $20.00 off per rifle. I also picked up 2,000 rounds of 7.62 X 39 MM. 1,000 rounds of Brown Bear, factory sealed in plastic in an unopened box. And 1,000 rounds of Golden Tiger. These guns are nice. Built like brick $h!thouses. The only thing is no cleaning rods. But the sights are straight as an arrow.

I also grabbed 5, 75 round drum magazines new in the oiled paper for $400.00,  $80.00 bucks a pop. The guy tried all of the drum magazines in both rifles before he sold them to me, then told me if anything wasn't right to bring it back in 30 days, and they'll exchange them. That's as good as a sore dick, you can't beat it! I'll try and post some pics of the drums a little later. They are absolutely beautiful for the price.

Just a note. After I loaded up the truck for the trip home the guy told me they just got 20 more Yugo Underfolders in. If anyone's interested, I'd jump on it fast, these are really nice rifles! The only thing "wrong" is no cleaning rods. Anyone got a link where I can order a few??   Bill T.

I checked their site. $589 with 500 rounds of ammo ain't a bad deal.

It really isn't bad at all. If you just want the gun it's $100.00 less, but I figure what amounts to $200.00 for 1,000 rounds of 7.62 X 39 MM isn't a bad deal at all considering todays prices. The extra 1,000 rounds I bought ran $230.00. So it was basically $430.00 for 2,000 rounds. I've seen 1,000 rounds of .223 go for that much!

The only downside is the guns didn't come with cleaning rods. No biggie, I just ordered a few from Gun Parts Corporation. They should be here in a few days. That's the only problem when you buy AK's of any kind. You never know what they'll ship with or without. I've gotten some with one magazine, and others with 2. Some are steel, others polymer. Some with cleaning rods, others without. I guess it's what kind of mood the shipping dept. is in on that particular day.  Bill T.

J&G Sales gets a bad rap from some people, but I've never had an issue with them. I've bought a total of 4, AK-47's from them over time, and every one of them shows very good fit, finish, as well as function ability. They also give you a 30 day exchange period, so if anything isn't right, they'll make good on it. One thing that kind of impressed me was the salesman opened every box, (5), and tried every drum magazine I bought in both guns to check for proper fit. It's a good thing he did because one was quite tight, and didn't lock up properly. He immediately got another one. Afterward he re wrapped each one in it's protective oil paper, and re taped the boxes closed. It's nice to see that kind of service today!  Bill T.

What do you think about the underfold stocks? I've always thought they were cool, but been a bit sketical about durability and acuraccy.

I actually purchased them because they were underfolders. All of my other AK's have fixed wood, or polymer stocks. I thought much the same as you, I was skeptical of their durability as well. These are very well constructed, and lock up nice and tight. The pivotable butt pad is designed so that when the weapon is shouldered it pushes it against the stop, and will not collapse until you deliberately move it by hand. Both of mine are centered perfectly with zero misalignment. They swing into the collapsed position with a 30 round magazine in the gun without contacting anything.

I've handled Romanian underfolders before and they did not exhibit the quality of the Yugo models. I'm not saying they are "bad", but when compared side by side the Yugo wins hands down. About the only beef I have with most any AK is the length of pull is much too short for me. This on both solid stocked models, as well as underfolders. I guess Europeans have short arms!  Bill T.

+1 for length of pull being way too short.

I'm new and I hate you. You walked away with a good deal. I can only afford sks. After my last deployment and 6th kid my wife told me to go get a toy that I deserved for being away for 16 months. Was going to pick up the winchester model 70 in 270 but one of the kids screwed up and had to pay a medical bill so I picked up the sks instead.
