A .264 Win Mag with a 270 gr bullet?  ::)

 That's not even possible! Bullets for the .264 range from 130 grains to 160 grains.

I wrote it off to something he ate in Santa Fe.  Those old boys from Tennesse are lightweights...now if he'd have grown up in South Louisana he could handle those chili pepper concoctions a little bit better. 

A man must know his limitations.....   ;)

Maybe after all that Mexican food, he felt like he was pushing a 270gr. bullet through a .264" barrel....  ;D
