Title: Michael's Fashion Question
Post by: Michael Bane on December 26, 2007, 03:15:03 PM
This from the blog:

Quote
Okay, I need some critical fashion advice here. First quarter 2008 I'll start filming new episodes of SG and DOWN RANGE videos for the next year.

For the last 7 seasons, I've been a Tactical Slut, wearing gear from Sig-Tac. When I started wearing the stuff, I was the only guy who didn't dress in Safari Slut-wear, as in, "I say, James, could you please have the wog hand me the Purdy?"

Now everybody on three networks is in Tactical Slut-wear, and I'm thinking I need a change. I did get one of the Wilderness Tactical Sonoran shirts, which is like post-modern tactical slut-wear, for Christmas and I got to thinking that might rock with the SG and DR logos embroidered on.

I may have some embroidered up for SHOT and wear them to parties. I suppose I could always go to one of the Cabela's canvas shirts or something from Duluth Trading...I don't know.

What do you think?

Though I'd ask you all to chime in. Whatever I decide, we'll pick a couple of Forum members and give you custom embroidered copies  of the winning shirt!

Michael, try to get Sig or Wilderness or 5-11 to make a "tactical shirt" out of really wild Hawaiian print.  The Wilderness prints seem a little dull based on the pictures on the web site.

Personally, though I enjoy going to Cabela's, I don't like the way they are ignoring the sports folks in favor of just turning big profits now that the brothers sold the store, so I say no to that shirt.  I like some of the ones at thewilderness.  These would be more useful for every day wear for folks who carry and don't want to advertise it (as we shouldn't).  That would be my leaning, go with some of those.

This is my everday shirt in khaki http://www.sierrapacificapparel.com/twill-shirt-manufacturer-maker.htm#product

MB, the yelllow duck would look good on Cabernet, Skye or Forest.

However, khaki shirt and jeans trumps all.

AS I was perusing...did you pick that one because it's three for $105 and not $40 each....did your sweetie input on this??

OK, OK...I'll lighten up, "hows abouts" the Kon Tiki when dressed up on assignment like the Shot Show, etc. and the Green Sago for the other shows?

Then again....you could do a one-of-a-kind blue w/red splash patter from Tactical Solutions......like the Ultimate 10/22.

OK...crawling back into my hole now.......

Wear what you like, I tune in for the guns anyway. But, since you asked, I like the shirt shown above and the one called "dawn kokopelli". An added benefit of the printed shirts is that it breaks up the "print" of the big gun crammed into an IWB holster.

My vote is also for the wild Hawaiian shirts.  There one of my favorites.  If you could get a Hawaiian Tactical shirt, that would be a combination of two of my favorite things.

+1 on the Hawaiian look.  I agree with the "every one is wearing tactical" line.  That is looking really passé.  I have always thought we (gunnies) need to look as much like the masses as possible.  Don't want to scream GUN by what you wear.

Two words, man: Tactical Toga.

I think a rolling feature of the show should be the clothes/gun/holster combo.

In today's "What the Diva is Wearing Segment" we see Michael sporting an ordinary Columbia fleece vest, with a long-sleeved shirt and a pair of Dockers cargo pants. Under the vest is a Sig P250 in a CTAC from Comp-Tac. A spare mag rides off-side in a Comp-tac pouch. Both are covered by the vest, which can be found at almost any sports store. The pants have a  hidden zippered pocket on the leg, in which Michael has chosen to store a SureFire 6PD.

Tune in next week, when Michael dresses to go to dinner with his sweetie's work friends.

In other words, give us some information on choosing ordinary clothes that can be used to CCW effectively. Not everyone can afford the $50 5.11 pants that might as well have "GUN" stitched across the arse end.

Plus, think of all the holsters you can add to the collection (or pawn off on us, the wee people of DRTV).

Otherwise... Tactical Mumu.

I like that idea Joe!  Just a quick 2 or 3 minute segment on "How to carry concealed in any situation".  Make it a regular feature.  PERFECT!

How about wearing a kilt? That little hair bag in the front would hold a service-sized weapon.
Or maybe that little bag isn't supposed to show?

I think I've gone blind with the thought of MB in a Kilt :o.

But I do like the idea of everyday wear for the average guy and gal. Wearing tactial colthing in some areas just screams GUN!
Myself, I'm in jeans & t-shirts most of time.

OK, Don, it was bad enough for R Lee Ermey to wear a kilt and LIFT IT on the show (actually in commercials for the DVD) - please do not continue the pictures! First the wee laddie is standing, then lifting his leg. we do not want to know what comes next, right M'ette?????

PS: I actually need a longer kilt . . . .

 ;D

I think a nice Hawaii shirt in a low key print and some dockers (or shorts if the wether is good)would fit in, out in the real world.  After all you should not stick out in the crowd if you are carrying.

Hawaiian shirt OK but MB in shorts seems almost as bad as a kilt!  I don't know though, I've never seen his legs.

Gotta love the hawaiian shirt, especially since back in the day everyone that carried wore one. Kind of a tongue in cheek statement . 8)

Post-modern ironism...gotta love it! I remember when Hawaiian shirts were "dead giveaways." Thankfully, they've once again been relegated to beach bums and tasteless old men!

Kilts? Have you ever seen the McBane clan tartan? Appears to have been designed by a blind man on a three-day absynthe bender.

And I'm a long-distance bicyclist...I have great legs!

Michael, I also like the "Tactical Casual" Sanoran print shirts that The Wilderness is putting out.  Not only are they functional to help with concealment (their cut longer), BUT the most impressive issue for me is that they are in fact MADE IN AMERICA!  I'd like to see all of us hard working Americans buy our clothing from USA manufacturers, even though we'll of course pay quite a bit more than the "stuff" at Wally World.

Stick with the Hawaiian style shirts Michael, let's bring Magnum back too!  I vote for these shirts.

MB
Given the nature of the show. I think SigTac looks professional and not overly tactical on you. Loose the ear ring though as I have written earlier. But that's just an old soldier's view.
I agree it would be nice to have a segment on CCW fashion that is not 5.11 or what ever stuff. Just what we can wear everyday and not look like a hero wannabe in a tactical vest that screams, GUN.

When in doubt, break the Hawaiian out.  You will look good in it.

I like Michael's current tatical look, sort of his on air uniform.  Otherwise, a Hawaiian tactical mumu. You could conceal ANYTHING with that.   :D

I'm kinda partial to the new suede shirts I got for Christmas.  Warm, and they don't look bad untucked with one of my (nerd!)shirts underneath.  Were I living in a region given toward concealed carry, I'd actually have it kinda made.
