Here's a pic of one of the pancake holsters I made.
I like the design, but prefer the Avenger style now.
DM
-
Way to go Dalton...this will work for sure
-
Looks good Dalton. I prefer the Avenger style myself also but sometimes like a straight drop. I carry a Colt Officers ACP and except for the Yaqi there is very little OTS cut short for the OACP.
Richard
PS: Never felt the urge to do leather work but appreciate quality work.

Here are some photos of an Avenger style holster I just finished for my Sig P226. Last night i finished the pattern for a Sig Mosquito but have not had time to build it yet.
-
Here are some Pancake Styles for a PX-4 Storm and a S&W SIgma
-
Here is an Avenger for an XD Subcompact. Its the first Avenger I made. I made it as a build along on an online tutorial offered by a fellow leatherworker on another forum. It turned out pretty good, and I wish I had an XD now so I can use it.
The other one is for a Sig 238, which I wish I could afford. I cant decide if I like the boned look or not.
DM
-
And here is a pair for a Beretta 92. The one with white thread is dyed with vinegaroon, while the other is dyed with spirit dyes. I tend to like the white thread one myself.
DM
-
And here is a hybrid of plastic and leather.
It turned out pretty good after scrapping it a few times due to paddle placement.
DM
-
The first one is my latest pancake holster. Not much to say about it.
The black one is a nice little 1911 holster that I was playing with before I learned how to make the Avengers. Its still a great little holster. This one is a crossdraw.
-
Dalton...lookin good there
-
Dalton, do you use the sweat guard/skin guard on all of your designs? It seems to be an "added" on most others.
Richard
-
Thanks for letting me know about this Dalton. Here are a couple I finished up this week. An Avenger for an H&K and a pancake for an XD subcompact.
-
Sparky,
Glad you could make it over! Very nice work on those.
Ellis, I do make it standard, as its easier to cut off than add it on later. ;)
Actually, I used to not put them on my pancakes, but have decided that the best thing is to have them to begin with.
DM
-
My latest for my XD Subcompact. I made this to fit the pistol with or with out a crimson trace laser. Also fits up high for good concealment.
AC (from cowboy leather)

Sparky and Azold...very nice...and welcome to the forum
-
Dalton and Outrider nice holsters your showing. Dalton I like youe first one best. KT
-
ok a belt and iwb holster for an EAA Witness steel.
-
Here are a couple I made for the Kimber Solo. Made from 8oz Hermann Oak.
-
To all of you on your holsters. Theres a lot of TALENT being shown. Thanks for showing. KT
-
New to the forum. Here is one I am sending out. Hopefully the picture uploads. This is a new color scheme I really like. I had a fellow that wanted to honor a dog that saved his life. I liked the color scheme so much I am using it on other holsters.
-
Coda, Denster, and Haystacker, Welcome. Nice looking rigs all around.
DM
-
Denster...well done my friend..that is a good looking holster. I especially like the simplicity and the lack of over done burninshing and outline creases.
Haystacker...same with your holster...very nice indeed...and I like the simplicity...
welcome to the forum
-
Hey Jeff and Denster, looks like your message on Leatherworker is getting through Dalton..
-
I think so too! We are off to a pretty good start!
DM
-
Jeff, I like that color scheme, is that base color of light brown with a black upper accent. Looks great.
-
Some horsehide I've made for my S&W 442......pocket holster then a belt holster.
-
Rayban...looking good there and welcome to the forum
-
Rayban as usual your showing great work. KT
-
Here is a Springfield Armory EMP Avenger holster and mag pouch I did a little while back.
-
Sparky beautiful work but I really like the color.. KT
-
Sparky, love it! Does anyone ever ask for a sweat guard (or whatever you call it) on the mag pouch?
Richard
-
Sparky, beautiful holster and mag pouch.
(all on here are extremely nice, but this one just pops out at me)
Tastefully simple.....and would almost perfectly match a tobacco sunburst guitar I have. :D ;)
-
Sparky, love it! Does anyone ever ask for a sweat guard (or whatever you call it) on the mag pouch?
Richard
I have not had anyone request a sweat shield on the mag pouch yet but if they do I would have no problem with that, it would of course be an adder though for the extra leather. Thanks for the kind feedback.

A few that I have built. Let me know what you guys think .

Nice detail boning and finishing. I was wondering if there was a reason your stitchlines are so wide from the profile of the weapons?

To be honest I'm still learning how to space my stitch lines on the pattern the correct way from weapon to weapon . However I have found that when the stitch lines are closer I have issues with the leather having that stretched look where the stitching is at . Also seems to make the holster really tight and hard to break in . Alot of my customers like to have the holster loose and ready to go , if its hard to holster or unholster right off the bat it turns them way off .
-
Nice to have you on boarb. Great work your showing. I like the gator. I do a lot of it in inlaid. KT

I understand what you are saying about the stitches being pulled into the leather. That indicates a too close stitchline almost to the point of not being able to force the gun into the wet holster. I have to disagree with a close stitchline making a holster hard to break in. My holsters, when delivered, are tight enough that if you put them on and immediately tried to draw you would end up with your pants line in your armpit. ;D I enclose instructions that the holster should be worn around the house for two to three hours with the gun in before attempting draws. This allows the holster to accomodate to the owners form and how tightly they buckle their belt. Done this way the holster will retain good retention for several years.
A holster that is loose to begin with will have poor retention after a short period of use. I hope you don't take offense at this but you asked what we thought. You show a great deal of talent in your design molding and finishing but the stitchlines really do need to come in. I like them to be 1/8" or less from the perifiery of the weapon this is not too tight and the stitches will not be pulled into the leather.
I use a fairly simple methodology for laying out a stitchline that comes out perfect everytime. If there is any interest I could do a short tutorial with photos when I'm laying out holsters.
Hey Dalton there is an idea a "How do I do that" thread.

Here's a few we've made recently.....
A highride pancake holster for the SIG P225. All of these are molded with flat backs, so they hug the body better and are more comfortable. The black coloring isn't a dye; it's achieved using a simple, old process that turns the leather black and makes it tough and somewhat waterproof.
A sidestrap IWB for the SIG P226. This model features a steel-reinforced mouth.
A highride pancake for the Kahr PM9
(http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u356/unokubizukuri/IMG_8734.jpg)
A prototype for a quick detachable, Avenger-type OWB for the Firestar. It also features a steel-reinforced mouth. The Firestar is small but real heavy because it is all steel. It makes a good test gun.
A reinforced-mouth highride holster for a Ruger SP101.
A couple of sidestrap IWBs with steel-reinforced mouths. These holsters were commissioned with an open muzzle to fit both the Glock 17 & 19.

A view that shows how they are flat-molded.

That is very fine work you are producing there. I really like that quick detach Avenger. How well does it work?

Thanks for the kind words. We specialize in practical holsters for civilian concealed carry. Holsters that can be mounted and unmounted quickly are a big plus if you're carrying all day, every day.
That's version 2.0 and it's a big improvement over the first prototype. For the first one, I mounted it using a pair of kydex c-clips. It was OK, but not as stable as I would have liked. So for version 2.0,. I replaced the rear c-clip with the strap. The strap is secured with a military grade pull-the-dot snap. The c-clip enables you to mount it almost instantly, and the strap locks it tightly to your belt.
Horsehide makes the holster light and stiff. The steel-reinforced mouth holds the pistol snugly, and the cut-away insures you can get a proper grip. And it retains the compact profile of the Avenger-style holsters.
So all-in-all, I think it's got a lot of potential. But I need to make a bunch for testing. I'm going to run a day-long carbine class next month, and I want to use one to carry my sidearm. Should be a good test.

When is that? Gonna really start hittin some gun shows this next year. Never sat at a table at one before, so it will be something new.

Jan 28 and 29th. I am planning on being there, so maybe I will see you!
DM
-
Now I have impoved my Avenger pattern. Its better but the stitches is still to close I think. What do you pards think???
-
BB,
I think it looks great!
I dont think your stitching is too close at all, as long as the pistol still comes out smoothly. I would probably adjust the stitch pattern slightly at the front of the trigger guard to come in a little closer still. Otherwise, I think it looks great!
DM
-
Howdy..
Now I´ve made a mag pouch and a IWB holster. What do you think? I think the pouch is little too deep and the holster risk to colapse.. Maby I will have a metalline at the top of the holster. But for now it work graet, quick to draw from..
-
I think it looks like you put together a real good rig for yourself. looks really nice.
-
To bad that Its illegal to carry in Sweden, if we ask I mean :D ;)
-
BB,
I think that looks great! I really like that mag pouch design too.
DM
-
Howdy.
Just made a new IWB holster with a clip on. When I tryed my "old" one I notis that a sweatshield would be nice, to keep the gun from rubbing against my skin. And when I was going to make a new one I placed a reinforcemet to it to make sure that the mouth dont colaps. Will try it on tomorrow when Its drye.
-
BB nice lob. KT

Thanx KT :)

Nice and sleek looking holster there, BB.

Howdy..
I´ve just build me a Wild Bunch rig, its a semi modern, semi western rig.. I´ve metallined it at the
back of the pouch and around the belt.. Can´t wait to try it out :)
-
BB nice job. I like the color but really like the clean US logo. Thumbs up. KT KT

Here's one I made for a Colt Commander. The customer took this picture for me. The color match to the grips is quite good.

Sparky,
That's absolutely gorgeous in it's styling for CC holsters. As good as I've seen from some of the top names in the business!
Well done!
-
Very good craftsmanship, Sparky!
Hey, you should consider setting up at the Lincoln gun show. I was the only one there with modern leather gear, and did pretty well. Yours should do even better.
DM
-
Thank you Timothy!
Dalton, my plan was to hit the Lincoln gun show, in fact I really wanted to hit several gun shows this year already but I haven't had a chance yet but that is the plan for this year. Have you been taking holster's to sell or are you just taking orders at the show?
-
Sparky,
I have been taking holsters as table fare, and then taking orders as needed. I have about 1/2 western 1/2 modern on my table usually, and it was mostly modern that sold at this show, but more money was brought in by the western stuff. Cant complain about that a bit!
DM
-
Sparky, thats some beautiful work pard.
I made my second IWB holster, love to make those. I tried some leather stiffner in this
and its stiff as kydex. I belive I will need some one way snaps, but I have not found any
over here so I have to order them from you guys.

Thanks Boothill Bob, it looks like your getting the hang of those IWB holsters, I still need to work out a couple things on mine.

It's been awhile since I posted here. I have been neglectful. Here's one I made today for the M&P Shield. It is Mahogany with black trim.

Thanx Dalton.. Now I will make mag pouch for it.

Sickbald, while your work as seen here may not perfectly coincide with my personal preferences, it's easy for me to recognize extreme talent and excellence in execution. Your work is awesome. I've not seen such attention to detail in a very long time. In spite of my evident verbosity, all I can really say is: Wow!

i use Angelus products but have been playing with the different sheens they offer.
It seems that from one customer to the next they all want a different sheen.
