Title: Jus wondering Part Deux, Olympic Arms or Lone Wolf pistol caliber AR's
Post by: Tyler Durden on December 29, 2011, 09:43:14 AM
Hi all,

I saw the latest cover of the Shotgun News Treasury.  It has a digital camo duracoated Olympic Arms KLG40 on the front cover.

so that led me to the 9mm version that takes Glock magazines, and I presume would take the big 33 round 9mm Glock mag:

and I hear Lone Wolf makes a 9mm AR lower which takes Glock mags:

Yeah...yeah....I know...it seems like everybody on the internet loves to bash Olympic Arms.

What say you?

I know a couple people who have Olympic AR's and they are happy with them.

Had a Olympic Arms NM AR some years ago.

Scoped, using handloads, 100yds from a rest it would it would put them in .75" all day, mag after mag full.

I have nothing but good things to say about my experience.

you guys are a fresh of breath air versus some of the AR snobbery I have seen first hand on other forums.

Thanks!

I've got one of the Lone Wolf lowers with an upper I built. I love it, being able to use Glock mags is a great + for 9mm AR's. I don't know anything about the Oly models but I too think they get an unfair reputation, everything I've ever seen from them was quality. One of the best 1911's I've ever owned was a custom built Safari Arms (part of Olympic Arms)

A long time shooting partner in NC, had an Oly standard AR, and it went bang every time. I too think half of the criticism of Oly came from folks that heard about a guy, that knew a guy's former roommates cousin's brother who had a POS.....

Are you referring to AR15.com?  I tried that site for a couple days before realizing the incredible amount of douchebaggery present there.  In fact, it took longer for them to deem me worthy of membership and allow me to join than it took me to decide I didn't want to have anything to do with them.

If I offend any AR15.com members who frequent DRTV, I guess I'll just have to live with myself.

All I have right now for email addresses are yahoo accounts.  AR15.com doesn't like my yahoo email accounts.  So I haven't been able to join there.

Sooo....no, I wasn't specifically referring to AR15.com, but I am not surprised by your remarks.

On other forums I am on, everybody goes ga-ga eyed over Noveske this or LMT that or LaRue whatever.   ::)

and they love to dump all over Olympic Arms.

I forgot about that part.  I've been using gmail for years, and they wouldn't accept that.  I had to dig up an old email account through my cable company to request the honor of joining that prestigious forum.  Sorry for being so negative, I've been eating syrup...just waitin' for the crash.

Sadly, there are a "few" of these folks that are also dealers. (Speaking just to the S. Florida Gun Shows, and local fodder)..

After my Frankenstein build, with an otherwise great POF billet lower, Colt Barrel, VLTOR this & Daniel Defense that, etc,.... I was suddenly spoken to in the most condescending tone, when I mentioned a spare Rock River BCG, and a Yankee Hills foregrip.

Like I was going to lay down $500 for a Knights Armament or Omega Rail...(oh and my Bushmaster stock trigger, was not a match grade, so it failed the "standard")...

I am sorry to think that someone who is not rich, and acquires a DPMS or Rock River/ Oly, CMMG, basic carbine, tweaks and improves it on a budget, encounters otherwise pro-gun folks that look down on their choice of brand or components.

My AR will also work like a club and still function and not damage anything.....I wonder if their EoTech/ACOG, big money AR can withstand even falling on the floor without breaking or knocking something out of zero.

Mine isn't a "show car"....it's a work truck.

I have never heard any one say anything good about AR15 . com without including a qualifier.
It seems like they are building status symbols for name droppers, those on here are more interested in shooting than in social climbing.

a while back I was looking at what it would take to build a pistol caliber AR from scratch, basically.  I still have a stripped upper from Evolution Gun Works still in the wrapper.

At least for me, trying to read through the AR15.com posts, it was dizzying.  All the if/then's.... as in "if you use this bolt, then you have to mill a ramp on it.....but if you use this hammer, then you don't need to ramp the bolt."

and then the myriad of magazine choices and mag blocks....  ???

The beauty of the AR, which many out there have lost on being deemed a brand whore, is keeping it simple, without breaking the bank... It's still an AR. Period....Like a 57 Chevy, many are out there, but this one is mine..

Nothing about it is rocket science, there are many inexpensive tweaks anyone can utilize to enhance performance,....but at the end of the day, a bare bones AR can work as intended....

For those that want a "show car", Amen. I would love to afford a custom $3000 AR myself,...BUT,....the reality is why? It's still a poodle shooter.

I'd get three more AK's or a Barrett, before I dropped that much on a super dee duper AR.

For the record,....I still love my Sig 556.... ;)

I personally really like the Florida hometown forum on ar15.com, some really good people on their. I also took advantage of the Texas forum before a trip there an got some real good info. I also find it's a very good place to buy/sell/trade, never had an issue with a transaction there. I check out the survival forum as well, some real good info as well as some not so good, take away what you will. I generally avoid their general discussion board like the plague, full of idiots. A lot of people are full AR snobs, I ride somewhere in the middle, if it works I don't care about the label but if it's garbage I'll blast it without mercy. There's also a big divide between recreational and home defense in mostly benign situations and people who use the gear daily in harms way.
