Title: Cool new knife.
Post by: fightingquaker13 on June 02, 2013, 11:58:35 PM
I just bought a new Spyderco matriarch. I have wanted one of these for a while and found one on Ebay for $66, about half price. I particularly love the warning tag, "This knife is not designed for use as a utility knife, and using it as such will void the warranty". Yeah, we all know what its designed for. It was built for UC cops who weren't trained with a blade, to do maximum damage in a CQB environment. Its basically a claw. Rip and tear. Now whether I actually want to carry this thing for an EDC knife versus a more utilitarian knife like my Kershaw or Delica is an open question. Still, its a cool toy. I should get it midweek. At that point I will post a range report. But right now I am psyched. It is a new shiny toy.  I'm curious as to whether it lives up to the hype. Assuming I don't cut off a finger (or something more vital) :o I will post a range report.

No pics, my bad. Here is the Civilian model. Its the same knife, just a larger version. Mine has a 4" blade.

That's only if you have to sharpen them yourself. ;D Spyderco does it for free (5 bucks shipping but they'll sharpen as many as you send them for that). The thing is, this isn't a slicing tool. Its no more a utility knife than your AR is a hunting rifle. Lets skip the PC BS and call a spade a spade. It was built for one thing, and that's why I bought it, same as my Glock. If this offends the antis? Good!

Ummm, FQ, you don't read many Hunting magazines, do you ?
A bullet thrower is a bullet thrower .
If it will kill a critter it's a hunting rifle.

I think this one is the one used by Hannibal Lecter in the movie/book Hannibal.
It's more to Tom's liking with the plain edge.  I prefer 50/50's myself.

Great. That'll look good in front of a jury if I ever need to use in an SD situation. Thanks loads for that tidbit. ;D

It came, and its very cool. I thought I was buying a used one at $66, but it was NIB. The thing is so sharp it will make you bleed if you look at it cross eyed. It is the second sharpest knife I've ever bought. A Buck Zipper takes the prize for that and five deer later I still haven't felt the need to sharpen it, but then I only use that for skinning and gutting. This one might fall into that category as I'll probably use my el cheapos for cutting up cardboard and such. I think I'll reserve this one for SD carry. I wish Michael Janich were still around as I'd be curious to hear his input. But so far, it seems like a practical tool for someone who is not going to spend years studying knife-fu and just wants an idiot proof back up weapon.
