Got my Boyd's furniture today for a project I'm working on. Just had to say that they look so much better in person, and they look really good on the website! I audibly gasped when I took the stock out of the box. Luckily the wife was asleep, so she didn't have to hear me nerding out.
Photos will follow when it all gets here and is assembled.

And Pictures?
-
I must say,
Went to their website and the prices are cheaper, in some cases, than the steel/plastic/aluminum parts. $54 for a fore end and $64 for a stock.
-
And Pictures?
Soon.

Nice !

Looking good. That's the same color I would get if I was buying the set. I think I would have gone with the finger grooves too.

Yes. Didn't like the smooth as much.

FINALLY, an AR you can butt stroke some one with .
One of the advantages of the AK has always been the option of smashing some one in the face with out breaking the stock.

I would worry more about breaking off the buffer tube than breaking the stock on an AR. Truth be told grunts can break anything.
-
Well, To do them justice.
When you're paying some one to kill people and wreck stuff, don't be surprised if some of the stuff they wreck is their own.
-
Beautiful. I might put those on a bolt action AR.
People will find a way to break anything. Where I work, people find new and interesting ways to break things everyday. Last night I was given a hand held microphone and told it wasn't working. I pointed out that it might have something to do with the condensation INSIDE the mic case. "How did it get wet INSIDE the mic?" I asked. All I got were shrugs. (I'm thinking toilet. Hoping sink.)

Drum roll, please...

Worked flawlessly, but accuracy was for crap. Noticed these marks on the spent brass:

Thoughts?

That's a fine looking AR. I don't know what would make those marks on the brass. I haven't seen that before.
-
Nice.
-
I wonder if those marks are gouging from your feed ramp cuts? Burs in the chamber?

I was thinking burrs in the chamber, too. Will check it out when able. Still in honeymoon phase. :)

what does the base web area look like? any stretch marks?

I don't know what that is. Please 'splain and I will look.
-
Brian... check the fired brass around 1/4" above the base, and see if there is a narrow band with longitudinal stretch marks...it might be an indication of a head space problem, or resized/reloaded brass... bottle neck cases grow when fired, and straight wall cases shrink...the mouth of your case looks funky, and if is brass flowing from a head space problem it might show on the base of the case

It's the area just above the extraction groove on the cartridge.

Late to the party here. This is a Boyd's Coffee Laminate Thumbhole Stock I put on a Marlin X-7 I picked up in .223 a couple of years ago. The injection molded, black plastic stock it came with was too hard on the eyes. This looks so much better, and it didn't take all but 5 minutes to change it out.

Went out to clean it before work and, being a bear of little brain, remembered that I have head space gages. Removed the extractor and ejector and, viola! go gage don't go.
NO BUENO
Just called Stag Arms and they are sending an RMA and shipping label right now. At least it's pretty.
-
It looks great but at the same time wrong for an AR.

It's less EBRish. I think we all get used to seeing the same ol' same ol' and anything different doesn't look right.

Very nice indeed.

Wood is pretty .
But polymer is dead to the effects of weather and what not.
Use those pretty guns for the range, keep the polymer stuff for beating around the woods.
-
I've pulled apart and sealed some of my wood stocks. It get's dry in the summer here in Oklahoma so that's when the deed happens. So far there have not been any stocks that were finished more than a token if any on the barrel channel and receiver area....so it gets a stain and then a couple of coats of a good sealer on it. Then everything gets oiled and siliconed down.
Not a plastic stock but I like it....
-
A lot of these newer laminates have so much resin and glue holding the laminated pieces together, they're almost like a solid plastic stock. They do need touching up and sealing in the bedding area as you mentioned. I just brushed a heavy coat of paste wax everywhere inside, and called it good. Out here there is so little humidity or rain, it really isn't necessary.
-
Finally heard from Stag Arms. Upper is on its way back with a new barrel. Hopefully they put the circular handguard cap back on like I asked. It came with a triangular cap, which won't work with the Boyd's hand guards.
Won't be in until Monday or Tuesday.
