Federal jury convicts Amor Ftouhi of Bishop International Airport stabbing

He was found guilty on all 3 charges and will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Leitman on March 7 in Flint.

A jury needed only about an hour of deliberations to convict Amor Ftouhi of terrorism charges in the June 2017 Bishop International Airport stabbing case.

The native Tunisian who had been living in Montreal, Canada, faces life in federal prison when he is sentenced.

Ftouhi's trial started on Nov. 5 and lasted a week before the prosecution wrapped up its case on Monday. His defense team did not call any witnesses or present evidence during the trial.

Both sides presented their closing arguments Tuesday morning before the 14-member jury began deliberations around 11:30 a.m. in Flint's federal courthouse. The jury reached a verdict about an hour later around 12:35 p.m.

Ftouhi was found guilty of committing violence at an international airport, interfering with airport security and committing an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries.

Diagnosed with PTSD and no longer working at the airport, Lt. Jeff Neville just got his realtor's license and is working on his first listing. He said the whole reason he became a police officer was to help people and he hopes to continue to do that.
