I've been looking for a new/old gun game to play, one that does not require a lot of movement...a local club has a gargantuan turn out for their Steel Challenge matches....I resurrected the SW M41 that really hasn't been used since we quit shooting the STC in the late 90's... I found the old Weaver rail, and ordered a Vortex Venom miniature reflex... naturally the slot width on the Weaver won't accept the cross bolt for the sight, but will throw it in the milling machine tomorrow... Steel Challenge might be a new adventure...
went to the indoor range Friday with the 10.5" .22lr upper on the SBR with a dot scope.... shows a lot of promise for Steel Challenge, as well as good practice for the 9mm PCC... regards

Sounds like fun! With the move, I am in search of new places to play games. I hope to do some of the old, but am open to some new.

Sounds good. Please post some pics of the toys after you get the Vortex Venom mounted.

update on the Steel Challenge pistol... well, the Venom did a good job on the M41, but has been confiscated and now rides on the 10" .22lr upper for the SBR...mounted as far out on the hand guard as possible, just above where I hold the fore end it tracks exceptionally fast from target to target... need a 1/2" riser which is on order... later

I hate that when it happens. Pretty much every red dot/ acog I have bought either never makes it to its intended home or lasts less then a week on it.
-
the YHM riser is pretty slick... I moved the Venom back to just over the mag well... I got second a CMMG conversion unit, and stuck it in, that way I'll have a back up with the 16"... CCI Blazer shoots very well and so far 100%... watched a Steel Challenge match at local range, some old friends, operative word is old... I think I've picked a good platform for the game.. regards Les

So...for grins I checked out the current pricing on CMMG 22 conversion kits. Palmetto State Armory and Natchez Shooters Supply both came in way over $200.
Midway USA running them right now for $149. Wow. So I ordered another one to keep at the Arkansas retreat....

Just an FYI. Primary Arms has them at $175.00.

25-round mags for CMMG and similar conversions, $16.99 at CDNN Sports. I don't know if you can get them cheaper, but I know you can pay more.

follow up on the first Steel Challenge match... let's see, you shoot 5 strings of a minimum of 5 shots per string, check.... you have two 25 round magazines you down load a couple of rounds, check.... you intend to shoot 3 strings and then reload, check... you forget to reload at string 3, same at string 4, and on string 5 you get two shots off...
you may now laugh :).... but, it won't happen again

Those are the kind of lessons you tend to remember. Jeff Foxworthy's dad's theory, "You wanna put a penny in the light socket? Try that out. OHH! Hurt like hell, didn't it? Don't do that no more."

So Les, how did the S&W work out? Did you really put that puppy on the milling machine for a sight?
