Title: TV Down Range
Post by: Big Frank on February 24, 2019, 08:07:09 PM
I just saw some videos of TVs downrange and thought you might like to see them too. Who hasn't seen something on TV that made them want to shoot it? And there's a PlayStation 3 video as an added bonus in the next post.

Modern TVs are no fun to shoot.

Some years ago...around 1980, I got a  new TV so decided to shoot the old one.

It was a B/W CRT model around 21" in size.

In the basement, I set it on the floor and placed a large empty box over it with a small table atop the box..being cautious since this was a new experience for me.

I shot it will a .22 rifle from the other end of the basement, say 60' away.

There was a nice BOOM and the box and table were lifted off the floor a bit and a large number of glass chunks from the tube spread out from under the box in a wave across the basement floor.

I guess the tubes were made of some type of safety glass as the pieced were maybe cherry sized with very few, if any, sharp edges...just took some sweeping to clean up the mess....

I'd like to shoot an old CRT TV with a BB gun and see if the vacuum inside makes it implode. It might work different if it just cracks the glass. I should look for a video of that later.
