Title: Gun broker blues....
Post by: TAB on January 16, 2022, 11:42:21 PM
I found a rifle I wanted. It was at 1300 for 6 days with me being the top bid... in the last 2 hours it has gone to 1825... damn

https://www.gunbroker.com/item/921112639

I know I can afford it, but its too much. Oh well.

Ps yes, it takes lots of strength  of will not to go over the top. ;D

Six days are left.  If it goes for $1,825 you are going to wish you bid $1,850.03...or something thereabouts.

I usually bid the things on up.  If the guy is a nimrod and really wants it he'll outbid you again in a hurry and a more patient experienced guy will bid up later on.

Some of the ones I've bid have ended up being a gun shop so they hop out at a relatively low price.  Then there are the real collectors who wait until the last minute and blow everyone away.

I was trying to get a 17 Fireball for a while and there were a couple of guys who always seemed to beat me out.  So a couple of podunk Fireballs came out and I bid right up to where they bought before and the bit and bid high.  To my good fortune a nice Fireball came out and I had them bidding high on 2 or 3 others plus I knew their exit point or buying limits.  Hammer down and got a good one.

Get this thing.  It looks good.

The .357 mag B-92's are fairly rare, Browning made a lot more .44 mags than .357, I would say grab it at $1850.00 if you can,You most likely won't find another on as clean as that one.

Yup.  Remember that when you look at last year's prices we have 12-15% inflation right now.  The prices are not going to go back down to where they were....yesterday has come and gone.  In the last year everyone's dollar they had in the bank can now only buy about 80 cents worth....which is how governments with fiat currency always pay for their excessive spending.

You guys are not helping my addiction.
.

I will wait a bit and see if it goes up, it looks like it was a max bid and it keeps getting upped.  So no telling what the cap is.  My guess is 2k, but I have been wrong before.

32 hours left and $1,825 current bid.  I think you oughta' throw $2253.07 on it and see what happens.

But if you really, really want it go with 2,553.07.

Don't bother with the asinine "Gaming" the auction.

Bid what you're willing to pay and if your financial dick is big enough , you win.

Doesn't Gun Broker have the bid feature where you put in your highest bid, and it only applies it in increments needed to either be highest/win, or run others up until you max out?

Yes, it also adds time if you try and snipe it.  I wish eBay would do that.

I'm pretty sure there is a time delay as well.

In the past, I haven't used if for YEARs, if you were live bidding Ebay would give others a few minutes past the last bid to respond.  I recall some auctions going hours over due to live bidding.

Cheapskate....    ;D

So I have STAYED AWAY from Gunbroker for several months.  I don't work anymore (for a paycheck anyway) and I don't want to be spending my retirement.  BUT...because of your post I got back on the insidious thing.

So...I'm kinda looking for a Winchester 9422M with a pistol grip stock.  I bought a 9422 way back around 1981 and I liked it for carrying in the swamp with me to dispatch furbearers caught in my traps.  I got one in 22 mag with the brass receiver once and ended up giving it to my middle son...it had a straight stock not a pistol grip but it was really nice.

I finally gave in and got a 9417 in 17 HMR with a pistol grip stock.  But...I still want a 9422M so I can have a 9422 style in all the calibers it was offered in.  So because of YOU Tab I started looking at Gunbroker again.

This is what I found:  https://www.gunbroker.com/item/921850109 (https://www.gunbroker.com/item/921850109)  It's more than I want to spend but they probably won't come down any.

Guess who high bidder is?  The same guy who paid $3,250 for the Browning you wanted.  Wonderful....just wonderful.

Six days left.  No way am I going to bid until the last minute....if I am going to bid.  I am hoping his cash is a bit short right now but when I look him up he's been paying top dollar on his bids the last few months or so.  So..if I bid now he may run up the price....if I wait and hit it 16 minutes before the end I might get lucky.

Or maybe I just pay the buy it now at $2,200....I hope the stock market goes up today.  Not real likely this correction is over though.

Dadgummit TAB.  You need a butt whipping for even mentioning Gunbroker.  I made a bid for this:  https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/922218980 (https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/922218980)

The very best trigger I have is on a CZ 550 FS in 270.  They don't make these things anymore...just like the Winchester 9422 series.  The price has gone up...getting this one for under $1,200 would be really good.  And...obviously it's a better build than a 9422.

To make things worse....there is this to bid as well:  https://www.gunbroker.com/item/917653728 (https://www.gunbroker.com/item/917653728)

Well...retirement money in the bank is losing 15% a year to inflation right now....I gotta look at this as an investment.

Dadgum you TAB....

Yes, a GOOD investment but will be VERY HARD to part with should the time come. (IMHO)

Aren't you guys glad I've passed my Rock Island Auction phase?

If you want, I can post some of the more enticing entries again.   Sorry no Browning 92s up in the next auction.

Well, once I bid $1,200 the other high bidder panicked and hit the buy it now for $1,500.  The .308 CZ 550 FS's come around every now and then so my thought is this guy is out of the way now no big.  There should be another in a week or so.  His last purchase was a CZ 427 in 222...so he's a CZ guy.  Good for him.

Now...the 550 FS in 30-06 is a lot more rare than in 308.  I'm going to have to think about that one tonight....

Alf....you should broadcast that stuff again.  We need to goad TAB into a really high dollar item.  There is nothing quite like dropping $10k or so on a gun.

Keep an eye on them.
They go through cycles aimed at
 everyone, , Could be anything
at dealers, will be lower end guns in lots, like 4 SKS for 1200-1600,
and then the Big one, $1 Million Colts and the like.

Dang.  I got a RIA Friday.  The Meriva model pump shotgun (870 clone) that's chrome.  It came with an 18-1/2" slug barrel plus an additional barrel with chokes.  Also a pistol grip but like heck I ain't a gonna use that.  $285 from my drug store for a $350 list gun.

Well, maybe because most of it I can't afford.  It is cool to see what other people fancy though.
