I can see where some of "Full Metal Jacket" was acquired in this movie. Came out in 1957. Love the Garands!!!

Hope you can catch it,...it's worth watching....Garands cost the gov't $80 a piece back than.... :-\

Most of the actors are actual Marines....and the scene with the Parris Island "Sand Fleas",..or No See Ums,...is classic....
Plus it's black and white Garand Porn.... ;D

Just one of those good ol' movies.... ;)

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Hi;

     I never get to see the entire movie, When we went out on liberty we were told not to be in uniform due to the Anti-Military sentiment of the times. Most of what I saw in the first 30 min use to happen when I was on the Drill Field. Jack Web was shown as doing most if not all of the training/Involvement. Actually, The Senior DI is a Fatherly figure to the recruits, it is up to the other 2 DI's to do the actual training,marching and "Adjusting their Postion of Attention".

     I saw some of "hollywood" in the movie (30 min) and had to laugh. The Movie was made in '57...In '58 was the McKeon incident which was a total game changer for the DI's  and then again in'75 and '76 with the "death march" and shooting of the private over in 1st Bn.

     Rest assure that the recruits of today get the same quality of training as did those of the 50's and 60's. There is 20 times more training subjects to "cram" into a recruit of today than "back in the Old Corps".  At last years DI Reunion, I donated my Boot Camp "Red Monster", it contained @ 80 pages of training info. Todays recruit gets a booklet with @150 -200 pages.
