Cardsharp2 copy
« on: April 29, 2018, 02:45:17 PM »
Yesterday I got a knife in the mail that I ordered online. It cost me $0 + $2.95 shipping + 6% state tax for a grand total of $3.13. It's the size of a credit card but twice as thick and weighs 0.5 ounces. When you flip the blade out the rest of it folds up into a handle. I looked online for instructions on how to do it and found out it's just a cheap copy of an existing design. It's a total ripoff of the Sinclair Cardsharp2 Classic. You have to rotate the little safety button then fold as seen in the video. The button on mine doesn't have green for safe, it's just black like the rest of the handle. The Cardsharp2.2 costs twice as much as the Cardsharp2 and incorporates safety buttons. One button locks the front of the handle to the blade so the blade doesn't wobble back and forth. There's a Cardsharp 3 for the same price as the Cardsharp2 Classic but with a different blade. The Cardsharp4 replaces the one piece polypropylene body with aluminum and spring-loaded Nitinol smart metal hinges. Very nice but pricey.

I've got a cheap knockoff as well somewhere.   Since I carry a real knife it's not part of my EDC, but I may start using it for those places with metal detectors.
Will work for ammo

The steel blade may be enough to set off a metal detector, but that's what plastic knives are for. I carried a small one on jury duty a long time ago. I have a Cold Steel plastic push dagger within reach when I'm driving. I could grab that and carry it if I wanted too, but haven't tried sneaking it in anywhere. Just throw away the metal ring and you're good to go. They also make a trench knife with an 8" blade and various other plastic knives.

I keep forgetting to post about my newest plastic knife, the Cold Steel FGX Skean Dhu. The first thing I did with it was get 2 pairs of pliers to twist open and remove that ridiculous steel ring. Who wants an "undetectable" non-metallic knife that sets off metal detectors? The blade tapers down in thickness toward the tip and I was wondering if it would be too flimsy. It made me think about a Richard Pryor routine I heard decades ago about some mafia guys talking to each other. One guy says he was stabbing some guy in the head with an ice pick and the handle broke off. He looked at the guy's head, looked down at his hand, then looked over to the other guy and said, "Hey Tony, what do I do now?" The answer was, "Wait'll it melts, a**hole." I watched the video on Cold Steel's website and I'm not so worried anymore. The part with the Skean Dhu starts at 4:19.
