Primers 2018
« on: March 06, 2018, 03:41:31 PM »
Was going to resurrect an old thread on primers be decided to start anew.

I'm on several dealers notifications list and over the past 6-9 months have only received one email about Federal Primers (small pistol) being in stock.  That retailer was sold out in an hour.

The gun show 2 weeks ago was a bust, not even a lot of CCI primers.  I was getting panicky.  Came home and renewed my online search.   CTD(gold), No.  Midway USA, no.  Reloading Unlimited, no.  On and on, nobody has any.  UNTIL, I came to Everglades Ammunition in Naples FL.  They had them in stock.  1,000?  Yes.  5,000?  Yes.  Didn't want to push it so I ordered 10,000.  $33/k

Now I get a Reloading unlimited notice this morning and here it is 4:30pm and they still have some in stock.

Could the shortage be lifted?   Let's hope.

Check on midsouthshooterssupply.com.
They seem to have CCI, but Federal are still in short supply.
I got notified about 2 months ago that Fed small pistol match
were on hand, got 5 bricks, checked 2 days later, and no more.
But, I was at Cabela's at Tualip, and they had large pistol match on hand,
got 4 bricks of those.
I have 4 pistols that require federal primers (softer than CCI), so I am
always looking.  But it is looking better.

Thanks, robert,

It's only the Federal Small Pistol that's can be hard to find.

First Federal uses them for their own ammo, like American Eagle, then revolver shooters want them because they're softer than any others.  It seems in the last 5 years, striker fired semi-auto users have discovered that as they lighten their trigger pulls they too can benefit from them.

I start to worry when I drop below 5,000.  I don't want to hoard but I don't want to be caught short.  So this is a good sign when two retailers have them in stock, and have enough that after 24hours they still have some.

I don't consider it "hoarding". I consider it investing. Capitalize on the lower prices before they increase. They ALWAYS increase. >:(

Somebody must have gotten a large shipment.  Everglades Ammo is still listing Fed #100 as "in stock" and Reloading Unlimited is still listing a few boxes left.
