Need recomendation for a scope.Have one coming,Thanks!
« on: January 14, 2025, 11:56:06 PM »
I'm thinking about installing a scope on my AR build,am looking for ideas on a decent scope that won't break my bank account.I have a Sight Mark Mini Shot M-spec RedDot that I'll be putting on a 45 degree mount. Just want something for longer shots with old eyes. Thanks.

How much power are you looking for and how much are you wanting to spend?

I have a trijicon Credo 2.5x to 15 on my yote gun. Honestly I could probably use more power.

Some one has eotechs with a 5x magnifier on sale right  now.  I want to say optics planet, but I might be wrong on that.

I'm stepping out where I should not because I don't own this model.  The link below is for a Crimson Trace with 1 x 10 power.

Here is why I would consider it for an all around scope.  If you want something to magnify and reach out the power comes in handy but if you are in a close tactical situation power is your enemy.  I have gotten by with a 1.5x6 Burris which is a fine scope but the 1.5X is hard to use up close...a pain really.  For those close in and fast shots the 1X would be great to have...heck I might talk myself into getting this one.  The Burris I have is set up on the DMR platform which makes it ..OK..sort of.  But having no magnification is, I think, essential for close in work.  A larger objective would really help with gathering light but I don't know of anything with a larger objective in 1X bottom magnification.

At the time I acquired the Burris could not find a 1X scope.  Here's one on sale if you get the MOA version.  $295 from Midway USA.

I doubt I would shoot more than 200 yards max, Most likely 100 yards. It's just a range toy for now, I'm too stove up for playing 3 gun or anything like that.Plus, since it has a fixed 10 round magazine(NY gun laws suck) it wouldn't be competitive. As far as budget, I'm on a fixed income and would have to save up for it.

Here's my current lineup:
Vortex Strike Eagle 2-8x on a .458 SOCOM AR
Bushnell AR223 1-4x on a 5.56 AR
Nikon Monarch 4-8x on a .308 bolt
Nikon P-Rimfire on a target .22lr
Leupold 4-12x on a .22 air rifle

Sadly Nikon would be my go-to if they hadn't gone out of the sport optics business.

Let me put in a plug, since you have no specific application, for a fixed power scope.  Specifically a 6x.  Simpler with fewer things to go wrong.  I had a Nikon 6x fixed and I loved it.  Must have sold it with the gun it was on.  Regret not keeping it.

If I were in the market I'd probably stick with Vortex, Leupold, Burris or Bushnell.  And go for the higher end models.  Believe me they are so much clearer, brighter and sharper, if not more reliable.

I went through my optics drawer, and I speaking of keeping things.  Way too many scopes and red dots.  Must reduce inventory.

Wow just search on-line to find what's available in Fixed Power.  Not much.  Sheesh.   Now I really miss that 6x Nikon.

Did see a neat Rule-O-Thumb  1x power for every 100 feet, which is 6x at 200yds.
Good luck with finding that.  There is a company, Primary Arms, but I know nothing about them.  Somewhat new to the business.

I did a quick seach for 1-8x tactical scopes. The Riton 3 Tactix 1-8×24 LPVO is only $249.00. For that price I think it's worth looking into if you're on a tight budget. The cheapest Primary Arms 1-8x24 I saw so far is $479.99 at Amazon. You can buy a SIG for that price. Monstrum makes a REALLY cheap one, but I don't know if they're any good or not. BlackHound Optics is a complete unknown to me for $257.99. Hawke Optics has one with a 30mm tube for $449. There's a Vortex Strike Eagle for $699, $399.99 at Sportsmans Warehouse. The AR-BDC3 reticle aids in rapid shooting while providing holdover and ranging references from 0-600 yards. That sounds good to me.
