Good post, but Fred needs to check some facts. Michigan is a shall issue state and Detroit has no additional restrictions so he should stop trying to push the big scare button by using Detroit as an example.

The goal in politics is to WIN!

That means your guy has to draw the most votes from the general voting populace. 
If you stick blindly to single issues, rather than take the best of what is available on your side to beat the opponent, you probably deserve the whipping you are gonna get.
