Something New To Research
« on: August 14, 2010, 01:57:42 PM »
Every State has its own regulations for carrying a weapon.  Minnesota has some very specific things when it comes to postings and what that means.  These rules are really very carry friendly!

However, I faced a new one on Thursday.  I was teaching a class, and the class was being held in a meeting room at a casino on an Indian Reservation.  They posted the doors with the standard no guns stuff, I believe they were close in all the requirements for the postings, but they also stated fines and consequences.

I need to do some research on what the differences, if there are any, when on a reservation!
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

State laws do not apply on Reservations, They are Sovereign entities administered by the Feds.
For example, If a murder occurs on the Res, State police have no authority to investigate, that is the duty of the FBI.
State and local CCW laws would not apply on the Res unless specifically adopted by the Tribal Council or imposed by the Feds.

+1 We have the Seminole and Micosukee reservations (with casinos), here in S. Fl. and it is considered a sovereign territory, however, Broward County Sheriff's can intercede, in local matters, but gun laws are determined by the establishment on reservation property, that have to ultimately fall under Fl. State Law.

YMMV. Check it out for sure,... as a former NC resident, the "open carry" law had a HUGE gray area.....even though it was legal.
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
