If you have read Unintended Consequences by John Ross he does an excellent point of tracking all the gun laws and one possible outcome in the not so distant future.  Gun laws have historically targeted two segments of the population, minorities and criminals.  So law makers are bigots, idiots OR BOTH!  I'd have to say looking at the Democratic party's historical positions that racism was the root cause of gun control laws now it is pure tyranny.  First they tried to disarm freed slaves to allow the KKK to hang or harass them without the fear of being shot and now its time, in their opinion, to disarm the rest of us so they won't have to fear being shot when they harass us or ship us off to re-education camps.

It goes back earlier than that, the first gun laws passed in the colonies were aimed at keeping slaves helpless as well as keeping "Freedmen" disarmed.
