The journal is a good idea.... log every episode.... if you can ad video, even better (with date and time-stamp).
If you are near a wooded area, consult the Game Warden for the area. Some states have a "disturbing the wildlife" clause about ATV's at night along with lights over a certain brightness. Georgia used to have it (I worked with a guy who got fined because he turned around in the entrance to a peanut field and his high-beams hit the treeline....where the warden was).
