That would have been my first choice. 

Find lots of them at a truck stop.  Much easier to place the device.  But I don't know how to determine the destination since the plates on a truck have little to do with it's destination.

You guy's do relize this is standard equipment on all new gm vehicles right??? What you thought onstar was a good thing?
