First time AR Purchase question
« on: March 24, 2008, 12:32:59 PM »
Hey guys,  I am looking at getting into an AR, but have a question.  What is the difference between Type 1 - 2-3.  Is this difference in uppers, lowers or what.
Thanks

JCBDC. it refers to the upper recievers, more importantly to the sight system.

A1 - rear sight has no elevation adjustment except for the preset, battle sight and 300 yard finer aperture, elevation is done by adjusting the front sight only. needs tools or fine manipulation with a bullet tip.

A2 - the rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation, the front sight is also still adjustable for fine tuning elevation.

A3 - Flat top reciever with a picatinny rail for mounting optics, accessories  or a carry handle with a2 sights built in.

Hope this clears a few things up.

I just purchased my 1st AR. A S & W M & P 15.  What type of grease or oil would be better to lube this gun?

You may be way ahead of this suggestion, but the S&W owner's manual should suggest what their tests find best AND will explain what parts to leave really lubed, lightly lubed or dry. It requires serious compliance with AR maintenance recommendations to get the reliability you want. Sorry if that is too basic.
Don't know about motor oil??  Do you have to go to Jiffy Lube every 3000 rounds? Tell more Bidah. I have it available if it is really good.  ???

My son, the Marine and now full time LEO uses WD-40. And has me doing too. On his Glock too.

As  Marine (77-80) we only used LSA but later, when I was a unit armorer in the National guard we used Breakfree.

Used WD40 for years. Going to try Mobil 1 because of all the good things I`ve heard. Let you know the results come summer!
