In my Smith I run 21.5 of H110, and seat the bullet in the rearward cannelure, this is the 300 xtp. I have used the same load on the 320 gas check lead bullet, but man the xtp, works as advertised. 4" groups at 100 yrds with a 5" pistol, I will take that all day long, and it is not as violent as the 180grn pills at max.

Tab, no dice, the Ruger cylinder is stronger, from a guy who does not own a Ruger revolver, I have owned them but only blackhawks and always just sold them. well I did own a Redhawk once, not my cup of tea.

Now, as to Ruger DA frames being stronger, when rebarreling revolvers, the only frame I ever bent, was a security six, good thing was just rotate it the other way and it will bend back and line right back up.

its do to the longer cylinder that they have ruger only loads.  An modern 45 colt can take the presure, but many can't take the OAL.   If you want to see a beefy cylinder look at Freedom arms, but guess what, ruger only loads won't fit in them.  Trust me a FA gun would giggle over a load that would blow a ruger up.

You also have to remember that 45 colt is a old chambering.  A SA army, can not take the persure that modern loadings can put out.

Is the chamber in the rifle long enough for a ruger only load?

Just for the nut swingers, the ruger only loads are do to rugers having a longer cylinder that can take a longer OAL.  It has nothing to do with strength.
Since the 454 has a greater OAL, it might work.  you do need to check before you order a bunch made up.


The ruger only loads will let you run up to 360 grainers.

Lots of guys also use lit'gun for powder.

Rugers may have a longer cylinder allowing for a longer overall length, but Ruger cylinders  are stronger than many other .45 Colt caliber revolvers.  Some Ruger only loads do have longer OAL that may not fit in FA revolvers due to hevier bullet weights resulting in longer bullets and therefore a longer loaded cartridge, but some Ruger only loads will fit FA revolvers.   You have indicated yourself (note the red highlight)  that the SAA can not take higher pressures.  Also read the Speer manual.  A review of the work that Keith did would also be worthwhile.

My Winchester 94 Trapper in .45 Colt just put 2 deer in the freezer. The hand load I use for hunting game is .45 Colt Starline brass with 19.5 grains of H-110 and Cast Performance's 335 grain hard cast LBT designed bullet. (I ordered the bullets from Cabellas)  I have also used this load on wild boar with great sucess. Nice thing about hard lead bullets you get very little meat damage and I have not had the game go past 100 yards after being hit.

With regards to Titegroup powder, this powder is a very fast burning, not intended for mag loads. It is intended for target loads.
250 grain hornady xtp MAX LOAD of 6.3 g for 750 fps in ruger Blackhawk (BISLEY).

PLEASE GET AND READ A RELOADING MANUAL FROM THE MFG OF THE BULLET YOU WANT TO USE.
Hornady 8th edition, page 1007, and page 1011 (depends on the firearm used).

DO NOT START OFF WITH THE MAX LOAD LISTED!!!
