I wanted to comment on how much my girlfriend and I appreciated the episode that covered self defense with a lever action rifle or carbine. I have a Legacy Arms (made by Rossi) Puma in .454 Casull with at 16" barrel that I bought with the idea of security in the woods while camping or exploring. It's awesome! It's handy light and holds 8 rounds in the magazine. More than enough (hopefully) for any backwoods encounter.
Well, my girlfriend just LOVES this carbine and shoots it well. Though she knows how to shoot and operate my AR15, Mini-14 and AK47, when talking about a carbine that she would be comfortable using for home defense, she kept saying "The Puma!" I was hesitant at first. But when we both watched the episode on lever action home defense, I had to agree. If that's what she is comfortable and compitent with the Puma, that's going to be her bedside gun. Of course, for home defese, 454 is overkill, so we keep it loaded with .45 Colt Winchester Silvertips. She also has a Taurus Judge in her nightstand which is loaded with the same rounds after two rounds of shot.
Though I still would reach for my AR15 in a crisis, I know that my girlfriend can back me up or if I'm not around, defend herself with confidence using a lever action carbine.
Great show! It helped with our home defense decisions.
